HSM's Ashley: "I Want to Be Honest" About Nose Job

High School Musical starlet Ashley Tisdale underwent a rhinoplasty on Friday, but purely for medical reasons. "I always knew I had a deviated septum on the right side of my nose, which caused trouble breathing," she tells People. "The older I got, the worse it got. I went to get it checked out, and the doctor told me the septum was 80 percent deviated and that I had two small fractures."

Tisdale describes her recovery as "uncomfortable," but her beak will be all better in time to film HSM3. "I didn't do this because I believe in plastic surgery. I did this to help my health," she maintains. "I'm not someone who is going to act like I had nothing done. I just want to be honest because my fans are everything to me."

Watch videos of Ashley (in profile!) as she records voice-overs for The Tuttles' Madcap Misadventures, a downloadable video game that benefits charities.

How come I have never known anyonewho has had a deviated septum that required a nose job? Must be a LA thing.

Maybe because regular Joes with medical conditions like that don't make front page headlines; or any headlines for that matter?

I recall a doctor I went to once, saying I had a deviated septum, but not much other than that. I'm assuming it wasn't life threatening, but breathing can be sometime laborous for me. I've heard this in other places, largely with celebrities (A lesser known case is with Mathew Perry between the first and second season of Friends), but reading this article makes me wonder if I should get that checked out.

My sister recently had the same surgery to fix her deviated septum. I can assure you that it is a real medical problem and that my sister now has a much easier time breathing.

I had a medical rhinoplasty about 20 years ago and it helped tremendously with my breathing. No cosmetic alterations were made at the time--or any time since!

Cut Ashley a break...these things do happen for medical reasons.

Several people in my family have had this procedure. Depending on how bad it is, a deviated septum can lead to chronic sinusitis, severe headaches and other unpleasant things. It's not a fun thing to have done, but it does alleviate the problems.

I work in an ENT office and have for about 4 years. There are huge differences between a rhinoplasty (plastic surgery) and a SEPTOPLASTY (a medical procedure).

To fix a deviated septum, which can alter breathing, you have a SEPTOPLASTY, not a rhinoplasty.

By all means, if the girl wants to have a rhinoplasty, go for it! But it is a completely different procedure than a Septoplasty.

Not a good move. Isn't she known for being "the chick with the jacked up nose"? She needs to go have a talk with Jennifer Grey.

Good for her!
At least she realizes that fans are important. I am proud of her, I wish her luck on her recovery.
