House Cues Up Dave Matthews
As you undoubtedly first read on Sunday in the never-sleeping Ausiello Report, Grammy-winning recording artist Dave Matthews is being admitted for a House call, guesting on a March episode as a savant and virtuoso pianist who suffered a neurological impairment as the result of a childhood accident. That '70s Show's Kurtwood Smith plays Matthews' father — a former physician, natch — who is faced with a potentially life-altering decision about his son's treatment.

I don't watch this show, but when I first saw the headline that Dave Matthews would be on House, my initial thought was, "I didn't know House worked at Hazelden."

What would be great is if Kurtwood Smith were to be in character similar to his no-nonsense gruff and grumble patriarch character from That 70's Show. I'm thinking there may be some serious fireworks between him and House. Or at least there may be as long as he hasn't kept a supply of Hyde's brownies to munch on.

Now the question is, will the former Red Forman have anything to say to the current Eric Forman

I wonder if Kurtwood will have any scenes with Robert Sean Leonard? He played his over bearing father in Dead Poets Society...

That's right! Good catch!
I loved that movie. It's one of only four movies in which I actually liked Robin Williams (the others being Good Morning, Vietnam, The World According to Garp and Good Will Hunting).

I think I'd watch anyone guesting on House, (1) because I've never been disappointed in anyone's performance, and (2) the regular cast is what makes the show watchable for me anyway. Make no mistake, I'm grateful and impressed when any guest star turns in a powerful performance; I'm just not one of those who thinks a guest star can make or break an episode.
There have been powerful episodes featuring actors whom I've never seen since (though I love it when I recognize a face that I've seen on House who turns up elsewhere. Example: When I saw Thomas Dekker in Heroes," I recognized him from the House episode, "House vs. God.")
I do completely admire an actor or actress who can step away from his/her normal persona to create a powerful performance. These I attribute to not just the "guest star", though: I also give credit to the writer(s) and other cast members. It's teamwork, people.
