Hilary Duff's father was sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court on Wednesday, The Houston Chronicle reports.

Bob Duff was arrested for allegedly violating an order that prohibited him from selling assets without a judge's approval and the consent of his estranged wife, Susan, with whom he is in the middle of divorce procedures.

Judge Thomas Stansbury of Houston has ordered Duff to pay $367,537 he received from selling stocks last month into a court repository. No court date has been set yet.

Per Duff's attorney, the elder Duff plans to post bond and appeal the ruling.

Stansbury also declared for Duff to pay $12,500 to fund Hilary's upcoming 21st birthday on Sept. 28. During the hearing, Susan requested $25,000 from him to pay for a party to match the blowout bash they gave older daughter Haylie for her 21st birthday in 2006.

What is Daddy's Duff's profession? I guess Mama Duff is paying the other $12,500 for the party. I hope he at least gets an invite.

Mr. Duff, Mr. Lohan, and Mr. Pantierre should start a club.

That is an inspired addition to the "Bad Dad Club," Rachel!

I have to say shame on the judge as well as Susan Duff for trying to get the $12,500 out of Dad for Hilary's birthday party. Why so much pressure to match the party for Haylie? Clearly a case of too much money THAT HILARY EARNED that the parents are spending...

Well it would of been worse if the Judge made Hilary's dad pay for the whole thing like the mother was asking. Hilary should be paying for this stuff herself since she is over 18 and has plenty of money in the bank.

You can say any number of things, positive and negative, about Britney's dad and how she ended up as she did but it's an example, along with the ones y'all mentioned like Lindsey and others, of women going off track and getting crazy because their paternal experiences weren't great. I know a lot of us think we're turning into our mothers, but I happen to think fathers are particularly crucial for young women. It affects the relationships they have in the future. Britney picked K-Fed and Adnan. 'nough said. Makes you wonder what Amy Winehouse's dad's like. Hilary Duff's always struck me as one of those people that's just determined to be perky even if it hides pain--I knew someone like that and she was a joy to be around, but we figured out was in a world of hurt. Maybe that's wrong and she's reacting against her father by being more solid than she's being shown. Kids shouldn't have to teach their parents how to be mature. It's not fair.
