Heroes' Latest Star Trek: "Uhura" to Play Hero's Nana

Tim Kring's hailing frequency remains open to Star Trek crossovers. Having recruited George "Sulu" Takei to portray Hiro's father during Season 1, the Heroes creator has called upon Nichelle Nichols, aka USS Enterprise communications officer Lt. Uhura, to fill a short-term role.

Nichols, an NBC rep tells TVGuide.com, will be playing Nana, the New Orleans-based grandmother of Monica (the new hero being played by The Nine's Dana Davis).

Majel Barrett, you are now on deck.

My first kiss was from Nichelle Nichols so I am always happy to see her do well. Best wishes to Ms. Nichols, a true television pioneer.

Ugh. I am not a fan of Nichelle Nichols. I met her years ago at an event, and she was rather snotty. I hope she's in less than a handful of episodes, that's all I can stomach of her.

Nichelle Nichols on Heroes!! Yes, one of the pioneering black actresses who didn't play a wise-cracking Aunt B is back on T.V.? This is great!! I can't wait to see her. She's a great actress and I'm glad they are adding another black hero to the cast. Hope they expand her role because she definitely belongs on this show.

She's been in Denver for the last month filming an Indie pic and broke that news a few weeks ago to KUSA (the NBC affiliate in Denver). And our experience here has been she's quite charming.

I would like to see Spock, Chekov, Captain Jean-Luc in Heros but not Captain Kirk aka W. Shatner!

Great news! Glad to see Nichelle Nichols on TV again. Majel Barrett, you are now on deck. Forget that - get Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand) on deck instead!

Wonderful casting! Nichols is one of those actresses that I'm always happy to see (although I have to admit I didn't watch Star Trek all that much).

Regarding the comment about her being in Denver and quite lovely: I was a kid when i met her, and maybe it was an off day for her, but she was rude and i've just never forgotten it. probably because i was young and was really looking forward to meeting her, and it wasn't what i expected. oh well! I guess i'm holding a bit of a grudge!

so this how it is going to be? the cast from the original trek series doing Heroes while the cast of Heroes doing the new trek movie as a younger version of them? I heard that James Kyson Lee (Ando) wants to play Sulu in the trek movie. Maybe they're thinking of casting Milo Ventimiglia as the new Kirk too.
