Heigl's Dresses Fitted for Later Release Date

Fox has bumped the opening of the Katherine Heigl/James Marsden rom-com 27 Dresses from Jan. 11 to Jan. 18 (the first day of the MLK Jr holiday weekend), not because there is any problem with it but rather because sneak-preview showings have been so encouraging, as the studio explains. In addition, the new date makes it the obvious choice for filmgoers disinterested in the sci-fi thriller Cloverfield, the only other pic opening that weekend. So if 27 Dresses is as big a hit as they are predicting, I suspect that'll be the end of Izzie, don't you think? Would you stick around a TV show where you're, like, third banana if you were suddenly a bona fide movie star? — Ben Katner

I would be more interested in Cloverfield if I had any idea what it was about. The promos are supposed to intrigue us, but I find them frustrating.

And Katherine Heigl has quickly hit my "I'd watch that movie except he/she is in it" list - she annoys me to no end.

My own issue with the Cloverfield promos is that the Statue of Liberty's head seems to be designed at the wrong scale/too small. Aren't people theoretically supposed to be able to walk around inside that thing? But in the trailer, it's about the size of three sedans.

Katherine Heigl will absolutely never, ever be a movie star. She doesn't have that quality like Hillary Duff or Miley Cyrus. And, she is a smoker. She should stay in TV. That's as good as she will ever be. Don't believe me, just watch. I predicted that the TV show "Girls Murder Club" would fail and it did. Largely to the fact that Joe Simpson is a producer. Nobody likes the Simpsons because he pimps out his no-talented daughters. THey should move back to Texas and raise kids, I hope they can do that. Jessica probably would be a bad mother anyway.

I just think it's a dumb move on the distributor's part b/c on jan. 11, nothing good is coming out. It could've been the top movie for at least one weekend. Now, it has to compete against "Cloverfield" and I do know a bunch of people who are planning to see it solely b/c it's from J.J. Abrams. I think it would've been wiser to leave it on Jan. 11 so it could've been the top new release for at least one weekend, whereas I guarantee it'll come in second to Cloverfield for new releases on Jan. 18.

As for Katherine Heigl being a movie star, if she wants to quit Grey's to make movies, fine by me. Her character has become a ridiculous caricature of the once smart, strong, beautiful Dr. Izzie we were introduced to, and that show is going downhill anyway- I miss her "Roswell" days!!! Of course, I hope her future movie choices are better than "27 Dresses" which was your basic romcom- very little heart or chemistry throughout it, though. Cute enough, but not anything that will make or break her movie career.

Wow, alicegardner, bad morning?

I look forward to Cloverfield and have loved Heigl since Roswell. The Statue of Liberty's head is definitely too small but I'll let it pass if the movie's good.

I don't consider Hillary Duff and Miley Cyrus huge movie stars. I don't think either of them has staying power, they'll fade away in a few years when the next big star for tweens comes about.

And what does Katherine's being a smoker have to do with her movie star quality?

Won't become a movie star like Hilary Duff or Miley Cyrus? Okay, both girls had/have achieved success on the Disney channel, but movies? Duff hasn't been in anything lately except Material Girls with her sister. No movie Duff has made has been a box office smash. Cyrus would be able to achieve box office dollars simply because of her "Hannah Montana" following.

Don't get me wrong, both girls are talented and good role models for young girls but if you want to compare Katherine Heigl to bonafide movie stars, why don't you compare her to someone like Julia Roberts?

I love Heigl and wish her all the best in her career and new marriage!

And by the way, its called Women's Murder Club. I don't personally watch it but from what I understand, its doing well for a dreadded Friday night time slot.

Wow, alicegardner, you're actually making judgements on what a bad parent Jessica Simpson will be because of her father? Compared to the Spears family, the Simpsons are normal. And you think the "Women's Murder Club" flopped because of Joe Simpson as the producer? I don't watch the show myself but from what I've read, it's probably doing a lot better than the show it's airing opposite on NBC, "Friday Night Lights". I don't know about the CBS show it airs opposite.

Well, personally, I adore Katherine Heigl - she's bright and polished and I'd watch pretty much anything she was in. Well, except for Grey's Anatomy - tried it, can't do it. I hope her film does well - I'll probably watch Cloverfield first, because I'm more of an action/adventure type girl, but I love a good romcom for a rainy day, and good ones are few and far between. I'm excited that James Marsden is finally making the splash he should - I think he's wonderful, and was so very funny in Enchanted.

As for whether Heigl will leave Grey's, I think she'll probably stick around for a year of two more. After all, it's the show that made her a star, and she seems like someone with loyalty. Good luck to her.

Women's Murder Club is the #1 show on Friday nights and it's doing just fine for it's slot. What have Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff ever done movie wise that makes them stars? They're fine on their kids shows, but neither one has lit the box office on fire as far as I know, and frankly I didn't know Miley was ever in a movie.

As for Heigl, she's ok on Grey's Anatomy but I don't think the show would suffer in any way if she did decide to go into movies. I wouldn't declare her a star yet, she was smart enough to do an Apatow film (and since she kinda trashed the movie in the press recently, might have hurt her future marketability) and this 27 dresses seems cute enough but 2 movies does not a career make.

Wait was "Women's Murder Club" canceled? I love that show. It's one of my favorite new shows and I find it a guilty, easy, pleasure. I hadn't heard it was canceled but I'd be bummed.

In other news I think Heigl could go either way but I think it would be in her better interest to stick with GA for a little longer, but not too long. I like her but they certainly haven't done Izzie any favors. She was much better before Dennygate and now she's absolutely awful, but as an actress I think Heigl is doing the best with what they give her.

I'm with IwatchtoomuchTV123 - I love Women's Murder Club and will be really disappointed if it is canceled!

And I also think the comments Iwatch's comments about Heigl are dead on - Grey's hasn't done Izzie any favors the past season. She's doing what she can with what they're giving her!

Wow, talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water! The topic was Katherine Heigl, right?
I saw "27 Dresses" on the 27th. The show was sold out. I liked it a lot and I'm not a big romantic comedy fan. I certainly liked it tons more than "Knocked Up" which I have to admit I totally hated!
As far as KH's career is concerned, she IS already a star. She gets the most press attention of any Grey's women and she is the only one on that show who has won an Emmy.
She has a new contract and I'm sure she is finally on par with the other cast members and will be on the show at least another two years. After that, who knows if there'll even BE a "Grey's Anatomy".
I wouldn't worry about her just yet. As far as her smoking is concerned, I hope that she quits soon, but frankly, it's HER health, youth and appearance at stake. If she wants throw all those down the drain, let her.
