Heigl: Mom Said Sopranos Would Snuff Me at Emmys

As indicated in her Sunday-night acceptance speech, Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl's own mother didn't think she'd walk away with a win in the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series race. Rather, Mom had either of the two Sopranos nominees to get the nod. Pops wasn't much more positive. As Heigl said calling into Tuesday's Ellen, "Even my dad was like in shock and said, 'I really didn't think you'd win.' Nobody thought I was going to win." All of which made it extra sweet when her name was called. "It's more fun that way because you can't get let down.... You can only be excited about it."

I bring this story to you pretty much only for the purpose of asking: Why was Heigl the only winner to blow off us folks in the Emmys press room the other night? You win one of the industry's biggest awards and you deign to reflect on it publicly?

I know that is the obvious theory, but since when has Heigl, of all people, been afraid of talking about that mess?

And furthermore, doesn't the occasion of being awarded an Emmy overrule any hesitations one might have? If you don't talk about your first-ever Emmy win on the night of your first-ever Emmy win, when is a more appropriate occasion?

Does anyone know where she went or what she did instead? Maybe she had to go to the ladies' room and got lost on her way back?

Maybe she wasn't allowed because the producers know that she'll say whatever is on her mind...which is I love her so much more!

Maybe she was worried someone else would mispronounce her name? Or - she knew mom and dad were right and was worried someone would call her on the horror that GA's season 3 was partly because of her character?

That was kinda my thought too. Or...maybe she didn't want to because she beat out 2 of her co-stars (probably who deserved it more).

I think you mean 2 of her co-stars who DID deserve it more. In no way shape or form was Izzy the best supporting actress on her show or any other show. I loved Izzy but she really took all the enjoyment away from Grey's whenever she was on screen last season.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do not like that woman. But I'm sure the reason she avoided the pressroom is because TPTB told her to due to her inability to keep her trap shut.

Uhh, Matt, look at the picture accompanying your article. Is that not Katherine Heigl in the Emmys press room? What do you mean she blew it off?

Anonymouse, that is the still photography room. Not the general press room where a winner takes questions from the media.

I was there. She didn't come.

Yes, Izzy can be really annoying sometimes. But Katherine Heigl does an great job portraying her. Her grief when Denny died, her storyline with her daughter--she does an amazing job. Her character may not always be likable, but that doesn't mean she isn't acting her butt off.

ummm....because she is a snob who thinks she is too good for TV and the fact that she stays on GA is supposed to be some gift to us little people? I won't watch the show because she drives me nuts!
