Heather Locklear Seeks Treatment for Depression

Heather Locklear is seeking treatment for mental health issues at a facility in Arizona.

Locklear's rep, Cece Yorke, said Tuesday: "Heather has been dealing with anxiety and depression. She requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment." Anticipating the likely maelstrom of invasive media speculation on Locklear's progress, Yorke added that the matter is "confidential" and no further information would be released.

Locklear, 46, has a 10-year-old daughter with Richie Sambora, who was arrested for DUI in March. The actress most recently filmed Flirting with 40 for Lifetime. — Anna Dimond

It's a funny line celebs walk, trying to both control the situation with press releases and hide from further scrutiny.

While I'm sure her earlier DUI will have people saying "Depression my arse, she's in rehab," hopefully she'll find a way to solve whatever it is that ails her.

She wasn't arrested for DUI; her ex, Richie Sambora was. So I believe she is, indeed, in treatment for depression, especially given the 911 call her psychiatrist placed a few months ago on her behalf about his concerns about her depression.

I wish her the best.

This is unfortunate, but I'm glad to hear she is getting help. I would probably be depressed too if I went through what she has these last few years.

Good for her for realizing there is a problem and taking steps to get help.

We love you Heather!

She wasn't arrested for DUI; her ex, Richie Sambora was.

I obviously read that too fast. I saw "arrested for a DUI in March" and my mind jumped to other stars who sought treatment for depression in a "facility" while cynical naysayers said they were in rehab.

She has done nothing but make me happy over the years, so I'm sad to hear she's suffering so much now. I'm glad she's getting the help she needs. Too many people don't. Mental health is too often whispered about as a shameful thing. That's a big part of the problem.

Best of everything to Heather as she works towards recovery.

My heart goes out to Heather and I hope she gets the help she needs. Like another poster stated, she's made me very happy over the years...she's an excellent actress!!! However, I really feel sorry for Heather and Ritchie's daughter, Ava. Ritchie obviously has issues and now this problem with Heather. I hope this little girl will be ok while her parents deal with (and hopefully conquer)all their problems.

I have had the fortunate circumstance to work with Heather Locklear and she is one of the nicest person i've ever met. I wish her well with her treatment.

I do believe people deserve their privacy, and patient confidentialilty laws should have protected her privacy, but in this invasive world celebs have few rights. Still it's welcome to see her be so honest about her treatment. It's another step in humanizing mental illness in the US. The stigma of mental health problems drives too many people to self medicate, especially the younger generation that has been bombarded with Ritalin by a cash hungry drug company cartel.

Dianora - it's a poorly constructed (and unnecessary) sentence and I had to read it twice myself b/c I didn't recall her being arrested for DUI. Then again I really don't follow these things THAT closely.

I'm glad she's seeking help, but from personal experience and research I've conducted regarding women and depression, I think hormonal changes set us up for depression and anxiety disorders, or the worsening of them, when we hit our 40's. Maybe this will be a little wake up call to any woman who's starting to feel down and depressed that it might not be just "freaking out over turning 40" - talk to someone.

Off my soapbox now! B-)

ctheslayer, you were wise to avoid mentioning anti-depressants. Tom Cruise might be lurking. ;)

ctheslayer, I agree totally about the hormone connection from personal experience. Any woman facing perimenopause and dealing with sudden anxiety and/or depression should speak to their health care provider about it.

Turning 40 is NOTHING to stress over! I am now 46 and QUICKLY approaching 50! AND I am just happy and thankful to be alive!
