HBO is planning to lighten things up this summer with two new Friday-night comedies.

Variety reports that the cable network will debut an animated series, The Life and Times of Tim, as well import as an Australian hit, Summer Heights High. Tim follows an everyday guy who always seems to choose the wrong path in life, while Summer Heights finds its creator/writer/exec producer, Chris Lilley, playing a guidance counselor, a female exchange student and a bad-seed student.

HBO has not announced premiere dates, but the two shows will run back-to-back for eight weeks. Tim will then run for two more weeks to complete the 10-episode order.

Do you think HBO will find success with these comedies? — Adam Bryant

Yay! Everyone should tune in to Chris Lilley's show - very hilarious. Hope the humour translates well for Americans, and may take a little getting used to, but a very funny and very successful Aussie comedy from Australia's public broadcasting channel! Please watch.
