Harry Potter Star Not "Ungrateful" During Contract Talks
Emma Watson as Hermione Granger courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures
Emma Watson, who was rumored to be a holdout during contract talks for the final two Harry Potter films — Half-blood Prince and Deathly Hallows — regrets that she came off as being a tough negotiator, but invites any detractors to spend a moment in her sorceress' hat. "People underestimate what a big decision this was for me," the 17-year-old says in this weekend's Parade. "This is the next three or four years of my life. Being in the spotlight and the lack of freedom are the sort of things that held me back. People will see that as ungrateful, but you never know until you've walked in someone else's shoes. I love it, and that's why I'm back, but I had to make it work for me."
As for that eventual life after Potter, she ventures, "It will be the weirdest thing ever." And you have to imagine she has seen Equus.

If she's bothered by the fame and spotlight I would guess she getting completely out of movies after the last Harry Potter. I understand she's young and wants to do other things but she has her whole life ahead of her and she'll have the money to do it, unlike most of us that have to struggle in the real world, working just to make ends meet. I would hope her parents can give her some good advice and help her understand just what opportunities these movies have given her.

All I have to say is good for her. I don't see any problem with her serioulsy weighing all her options before she made such a huge decision, I mean her life is going to be revolving around these movies until she is 20 or 21. I dont see her holding back as being ungrateful, I see it as being smart.

ok, the whole daniel radcliffe doffing his kit thing never really bothered me -- these things are part of many an actor's life -- until, that is, you gave me the unsettling image of hermione seeing harry naked...

I think it's admirable that Emma is taking a role in deciding her future rather than letting everybody around her make those decisions for her. Is she the anti- oh, you know.....

It's hard enough being a teenager (from what I remember back during the Reagan years)…
…I can't imagine how much harder it is to be a famous teenager in today's celebrity-obsessed society where people exist to gleefully talk sh*t about you in the tabloids and the tabloid-obsessed internet.

Yeah I certainly don't blame her...
But geez, do you really think she went and saw Daniel on stage? That's just disturbing. Now if the guy who played Krum was up there...

If Emma doesn't want to come back, can they use LiLo, whose impression of Emma on SNL a couple of years ago was, shall we say, impressive?

LOL, I totally agree.
Emma Watson seems to be a rather serious-minded young lady whom I would be proud to call a relative. Good for her. If she wants to go to university, for example, it's going to be damnably hard to work around a shooting schedule. She's got her feet on the ground and that's in her favor.

What a refreshing scene this is from the one a few months ago. I am happy to see that everyone who has posted so far seems to agree that Miss Watson was totally justified in taking her time to make HER decision. I am thrilled that she has decided to return, but would not have held it against her if she had not. It's good to see that the whole idea of the girl "owing" us, as viewers, any part of the next 3-4 years of her life has been dropped.

Whew, wycked1, I was feeling sick to my stomach......
And I, too, am happy to see support for her as a person rather than an icon. So many young stars leave decisions in the hands of others. And look where it gets them?
