Grieving Angelina "Has Become Very Thin," Says Kin

As Angelina Jolie celebrates her latest burst of motherhood — to newly adopted Vietnamese son Pax — she is still coping with the January loss of her own mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand — by not eating. "Angie has become very thin because she's grieving," her older brother, James Haven, tells London's Daily Mail. "She has not wanted to eat, nor has she been able to." Assessing the sitch, Jolie's Ethiopia-born daughter, Zahara, is all, "I'm sorry, you people here choose not to eat?" and then smacked her forehead.

What's she going to do---adopt 10 kids and then die because she isn't eating and then what? What an example to set for kids from underdeveloped countries! Geeeesh!

Oh, Matt, you are a very naughty boy.

That's why we can't get enough of you.

I laughed at the Zahara quote too :) but on a serious note - Not eating is not a healthy way to grieve, but I challenge anyone out there who has lost a parent to say that they were able to sit down and eat a big hearty meal while they dealt with the loss. I didn't eat for two days after my mother died, and after that it was only what people could bully me into eating. It's not a CHOICE - there is no appetite, food makes you nauseous - its a grief reaction. Can people just stop picking at every little thing??????

Newfiegal I know just what you mean, same thing for me when my mom died.

Having said that, Matt that was funny.

Did you guys see the pictures of Pax and Zahara sharing something..? and Pax and Maddox asleep together?

I agree - if you've lost a parent you'll understand. Unless you are heartless.

So Matt, was Z thinking, "she should of had a V8". ;)

While I understand not eating while grieving, at some point people around her kind of really need to say "snap out of it!"

If she is not eating, she's not taking care of herself. If she's not taking care of herself, how is she taking care of four kids under the age of six? I understand she's probably got all sorts of help, but she needs to keep herself healthy for her kids - and not eating is NOT keeping herself healthy, I don't care what her reasons for not eating are.

Is it really appropriate to make jokes about a daughter's grief over her mother's death? Really uncool...

Speaking of Zahara, has anyone EVER see a photo of this child smiling?

Is it just me or can anyone explain why you don't see more pictures of Angelina toting around Shiloh. A good percentage of the photos splashed around the world always have her with her other children, whether in her arms or holding their hands. Why is it you don't see her that much with her biological child? At least with Brad, you see him with all the children. Just wondering..?<img border=">

Hi matt
love your writing BUT shouldn't the emphasis be on on the word CHOOSE?in other words "why would you people CHOOSE not to eat?" in other words zaharia HAD no choice to not eat in her former situation..sorry i get carried away sometimes..lol

I think Matt's line was perfect just the way it was. Very, very funny, as always.

And as for "Is it really appropriate to make jokes about a daughter's grief over her mother's death? Really uncool...", well, I guess there always has to be at least one of these humorless tsk-tsk finger-waggers in every bunch, eh?

I mean, while you're at it, is it appropriate for someone's brother to announce to the world that his sister is not eating because of her grief over her mother's death?

And, if she's in the midst of that kind of depression, is that really the best time to be adopting another baby?

Everyone understands the grief of losing a parent and surely sympathizes with Jolie.

On the other hand, it has been two months, and she does have young children who need a lucid, healthy mother. (If you're still in the "no appetite" stage of grief after two months, there may be something seriously wrong.)

Matt's joke wasn't a gratuitous mean-spirited dig at Jolie or Zahara. It was merely a funny way to point out another perspective on Jolie's situation.

I agree with momstheword003. I think Angelina should start taking care of the kids in our country and adopting them if she wants to adopt. She makes me sick. It's all about her and what she wants no matter who gets hurt along the way.
