Grammys: Winehouse Gets Her Fix, Hancock Rocks It

The Grammy Awards celebrated their 50th birthday by showering kudos upon someone who could not even attend the show in person. Amy Winehouse, the famously troubled Brit who had to "appear" on the telecast via satellite (due to visa/rehab problems), walked away with five trophies, including best new artist and best song ("Rehab"). "I can't believe I've won five awards," Winehouse said after the ceremony, during which she performed "Rehab" with a knowing wink (literally) and "You Know I'm No Good." The 24-year-old later dedicated her record of the year win to "my [husband] Blake, my Blake incarcerated."

Perhaps the biggest upset was dealt by Herbie Hancock, whose River: The Joni Letters won album of the year, an honor rather publicly sought by Kanye West. Though West afterward claimed to be "good" with the outcome, he blew past the post-show interview rooms and instead only posed for photos.

One last note of interest: Obama defeats Clinton! Presidential candidate Barack Obama bested Bill Clinton (and Jimmy Carter) to win best spoken word album for his audio version of The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream . A sign of things to come...?

I'm I the only one who sees something wrong with this world when we praise these people who are terrible role models for our country's children? I mean she's oviously not stable, yet she wins how many grammy's? And the same goes for r kelly (the child rapist) and michael jackson (the child molester) people love them but if they weren't famous, they'd be in prison.

That's why I hate award shows and think they're a crock.

Ugh, can we not get political in a post about the Grammys. Yes he won, should of gone to Jimmy Carter though, I thought he was excellent, but the phrase s sign of things to come, the Grammys aren't political. The Grammys are for dissing Kanye and having him throw a tantrum and for rewarding one of the craziest drug addicts around, Amy Winehouse. "my [husband] Blake, my Blake incarcerated." What every woman should aspire to, singing songs to their drug addicted husbands in jail. Not trying to offend anyone by the way.

So the Grammy should go to the best role model? Silly me, I thought it was about the music.

Did you not see last year, when the dixie chicks swept the grammy's? Now, I'm a huge dixie chicks fan and have been for 10 years, but I'm not stupid. I know some part of them winning was political. I think that Taking the Long Way is a great album, their best yet, and I've listened to it a million times, but people were trying to make a statement.

So the Grammy should go to the best role model? Silly me, I thought it was about the music.

I just think it's sad that this kind of behavior is almost rewarded. And I'm not saying the grammys should reward role models, I'm saying that these people, should recognize that because of what they are and what they do that kids look up to them and they should act like role models. And a lot of celebrities are good role models, but they don't get the headlines, these crazy ones do.

I thought the show was good i would have rather seen The Time, Tina Turner and a few of the older groups do there thing with out adding a younger artist but other then that the show wasn't bad. I don't see how Marry J beat out Alicia Key's but hey.

And i was very happy for Amy Winehouse no matter what she is going through her cd was smokin every song and she was the best new artist out there. Hopefully she'll get it together very talented girl

Happy for Herbie Hancock as well he's like fine wine just keeps getting better and better.

I only watched to see Tina Turner and she didn't disappoint the women is still great. I could care less who wins any of these awards these music awards shows are really about the performances and every so often you get a real timeless one.

You forgot to mention 15 year old Miley Cyrus dressed like a complete whore!

Winehouse has talent that deserves to be rewarded. Why was Miley Cyrus there?

I loved Usher's comment just before announcing Album of the Year - "Remember, there are no losers here tonight... Kanye!"

As for the posters denouncing the "role models" that received Grammys last night - while you may not consider Amy Winehouse et al. are role models, the fact remains that they made some great music... and that is what is being honored. (Besides, Ms. Winehouse is getting help, so that's a start.)

After Vince Gill had his award presented to him by Ringo Starr he said something like "I just had an award presented to me by a Beatle" then said "Have you had that happen to you yet Kanye?" It was pretty funny.

What did he say?

Vince Gill was awe-struck that be'd been given his Grammy by Ringo Starr, and asked if Kanye had been given an award by a Beatle (I heard the audio on Bob & Tom this morning.)
