Will & Grace Creators Score New Pilot for ABC

Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are joining the post-strike rush of pilot orders with their greenlit comedy for ABC.

The as-yet-unnamed show (which was written on spec prior to the strike), features two best friends and biz partners — one straight, one gay — who have to navigate their relationship when they each find romantic partners at the same time. The comedy's likely inspired in part by the writers' real friendship and longtime working relationship. In addition to Will & Grace, the two have shared credits on Four Kings and Good Morning Miami, among others.

Although the pair also produced a pilot for CBS last year, the new one is unrelated, although thematically similar. — Anna Dimond

I hope they've learned their lesson from 4 Kings and Good Morning Miami and won't pack this new show with too many silly and/or boring characters. 4 Kings had two kings too many (2 of the guys were almost totally nondescript and not particularly likable or good-looking), and Good Morning Miami was a Hogan's Alley of bad ideas (like a nun weathergirl and whatever Jere Burns was supposed to be). GMM also had a lead who is very cute but doesn't seem to be able to summon enough charm to carry a show, despite several tries. I've always wanted to like him, and almost managed to, but there's just something missing there.

diva247, there are plenty of shows that don't focus on gay people go watch them if you don't like it.

I may watch this. I'm a gay teenager, but I hated the stereotypical gays they created on Will and Grace.

Great! another gay show. Is that all theses writers can come up with is a show about gay men, gay women. There is people in this world that don't want to see that. Television has gone completely to the dogs. Hell a dog has more common sense then theses writers.

Great! another hatemonger. Is that all theses posters can come up with is a post against people who are different? There are people in this world that don't want to see that. Some threads have gone completely to the dogs. Hell a dog has more common sense then some of these posters.

Aaaww, dang. Apparently diva247's "insightful" comment has been removed.

I hope that teaches everybody a little lesson about using imaginary words like "theses."

I am a gay teenager and I am excited for another show to come out by Matt and David. I can't wait and hope it does not fail in ratings.
