Gossip Girl Moves Out of Idol's Way, Plays with Dolls
Gossip Girl by KC Bailey/The CW
Fearing that its beautifully trendy kids will get crushed by the American Idol juggernaut — and also looking to get the best play from an upcoming rash of strike-induced repeats — the CW is moving Gossip Girl to Mondays at 8 starting Jan. 28. The thinking is that while in reruns, the show might get exposed to a different crowd on a new night, thus broadening its reach. "There's great buzz and a great reaction to Gossip Girl," a CW scheduling exec explains to Variety. "Now we just want to grow the audience a bit."
Serena, Blair and the bratty bunch won't be alone on Mondays for long. Starting Feb. 18, GG's lead-out will be Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, which will seek to form a brand-new (and presumably girlicious) girl band.
One other major CW programming note: any remaining new Reaper episodes (there are two, by Ausiello's count) will piggyback Smallville starting Feb. 28. But don't fret, Supernatural fans — a CW rep assures me the series will be back Jan. 31, as planned, to air three or four new episodes in a row.

no amount of coverage of gossip girl is gonna hide that it is the biggest flop in the cw's history, no amount of paying media organizations by the cw to get press will help it either, i suppose teens don't watch scripted television anymore

Whoa, The CW is paying the press to write about Gossip Girl? Where are my checks?!?! ! And what about podcast mentions, do those merit a premium?

Gee, I watched the CW on Monday nights. Now I'll have to find something else to watch. Does this means we're out of new episodes of Everybody Hates Chris and Aliens in America?

No, the entire season of Everybody hates Chris has been shot and there's 7 more episodes of Aliens in America...

So Matt, any word or reassurance that once Reaper runs out of new episodes in Supernatural's timeslot that SPN will come back in the form of reruns? We know that the new episodes will air starting Jan. 31st, but what we don't like is that the reruns won't be on the strike schedule. I guess it's good that the new SPN episodes are running during a sweeps month, but still, it stings to be taken off the schedule even if it is reruns.

Gossip Girl is simply great through and through. It's not the show's fault that The CW is watched by, I'm guessing, 12 people.
But hey, the show is selling like hotcakes on iTunes!

Calm down mick jagger, maybe u should watch the show before commenting on it.
This show is suprisingly good. It is well written and well acted. Much better than any other teen show on right now. Love the location, music, and cast.
Great news about moving it to monday during the strike!! It has been the number 1 show on itunes since september and its DVR viewship puts it in the top 10! So obviously there is an audience...just not a great live audience because everyone watches it on the internet. In fact this weeks episode was up on youtube for only a day and it was already the #4 most viewed clip on youtube (before it got took down).
Although Canada ratings don't count, it is doing very well in Canada for coming on at a 7PM time slot (in fact a greater PROPORTION of canadians are watching it compared to americans).
This show definitiely deserves to stay on air! LOVE IT!
Last new episode this wednesday at 9PM on CW!!

calm down people gg being a flop has little to do with quality, but mostly with the cw lack to attract any measurable amount of an audience, i've seen every episode and continue to watch to the end, but show probably will never be a hit like "One Tree Hill" , back tue jan 8, 2-hr premiere , don't forget

Moving the ridiculous Gossip Girl to Mondays is not going to do any better. Anybody can tell you that. Why?. It couldn't gain big numbers airing after the top rated show on the CW, and with competition that was not so severe. Crowned comes before it and GoGi plummets. Where are the fans?, or were the people who were there before there just because it was on after ANTM?.
Moving Gossip to Mondays will be much worse. It's reruns/new eps do nothing, and how can Gossip anchor a night when it can't really do it with a high rated lead in and little competition?. The CW may of moved it out of Idol's way, but Dancing With The Stars will be coming back to Mondays soon. GoGi needs some kind of support(not that that entirely helped), and it certainly won't be able to stand up against any real competition. It's like OTH. Empty, predictable, cliched, and whose ongoing survival amazes most everyone.

Actually Gossip girl was on a roll since victor/victrola and had two episodes recently (seventeen candles and blair waldorf must pie) that beat OTH in the ratings before CW started showing GG episodes every two weeks (messing up with GG ratings).

I'm glad that The CW is at least airing the remaining new Supernatural episodes during sweeps.
However, I'm more than a little annoyed they're not allowing it to continue airing in reruns after sweeps ends. There's a golden opportunity there to gain new viewers while other shows, like CSI, are in rerun also - a golden opportunity that is being wasted.
