« Today's News: Our Take
Good-ish news for Studio 60, The Nine, Two Others
The Hollywood trades are reporting this morning that additional script orders have been awarded to ABC's The Nine, Men in Trees and Help Me Help You (four each), as well as NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (for three). Traditionally, such script orders are a decent precursor to a full-season pickup, though it must be noted that the "vote of confidence" didn’t work out particularly well for last season's Threshold, E-Ring or Out of Practice. In related news, NBC has ordered an extra, 25th episode of ER for this season, while ABC has snipped its order for the mid-season series Traveler from 13 episodes to eight.

They're snipping Traveler?!? COME ON! This and 'The Black Donnellys' are some of the best shows from the season! I hope it gets good ratings and the episode order goes up. I would also love to know when NBC will begin airing Black Donnellys now that ER is staying around.
I'm happy for 'Men In Trees' and specially 'Studio 60' getting additional scripts though

Good news for Studio 60, but I'd much rather see that go off the air and have Friday Night Lights get its spot, if they do end up moving it. And they'd better make these scripts less patronizing.
And that is very sad news about Traveler. Like the poster above, Traveler and The Black Donnellys were two of the best pilots I saw this season, and both of them are getting shafted.

ALthough I was initially upset by the low ratings Studio 60 has been getting, I'm starting to feel they're deserved. The criticisms that are commonly thrown at the show are all pretty accurate, and with each passing episode they become more glaring. Right now, I find it harder to suspend disbelief for Studio 60 than I ever have for shows like Lost or Prison Break.

Hopefully Studio 60 will get a chance to grab a bigger audience. It still has tons of potential and their last episode was definitely a step in the right direction.
I've only seen the trailer for The Traveler and I thought it looked pretty cool. Hopefully ABC will give it a chance.

Any show with the cast of Studio 60 has potential, but they seriously need to improve the writting and Sorkin needs to come down from his mile high soap box. The last episode, easily the worst so far, felt like watching a sunday church program. The West Wing had it's slant on things, but it was never this so over the top preachy that it practically smacks you upside the head.

I have to disagree wildbill, this last episode of Studio 60 was the best so far. I'm thrilled it got an order for 3 more episodes, it's my favorite new show of the season.

I've been watching Studio 60, and I too thought the last episode was very good--it had inklings of the West Wing with the various endings. It has a ways to go, but I don't think I'm ready to give up on it yet. They need to realize that writing a show is not on the same level as saving the world, as was the case on The West Wing (the best show on TV ever imo)

They are moving FNL to a Monday when CSI: Miami is a repeat so if they intend to have it fight for Studio 60's spot, that is not a good date to pull this switch-a-roo. If they are just trying to get more exposure, NBC should air repeats of both Studio 60 and FNL @ various times to obtain more exposure.

I'm happy about ER and hope that Studio 60 and The Nine end up lasting. However, that news about Traveler is the worst I've heard in awhile because it really was the best pilot I saw for this season.

I think it's obvious what happened. They got scared! Seeing how badly shows like Vanished, Kidnapped, Runaway and The Nine are doing, they now think that having another serialized show is a bad idea.
And Traveler is like most of those shows. There's a conspiracy and two boys are on the run hiding from the FBI and trying to figure out who framed them for that bomb.
However, Traveler is much better than those shows, in my opinion. Of course we don't know if the rest of the episodes will be as good as the pilot, but I'm hoping they will be.
It's sad that they're giving up on the show so soon.

I happen to love Studio 60 so I'm very glad to hear about the good ish news. I'd be happier to hear an entire season has been ordered.
I think there's entirely too much skittering around with shows these days. If there weren't so many reality shows and so many reality show watchers out there, shows could have a chance to develop and get better with time. There's no loyalty these days because somebody wants to make a deal, or marry a bachelor or dance. We need to be patient. Some of the greatest shows of all time did horrible in the ratings. Anyone remember Cheers?

With the exception of season 1, ER has consistently had 22 episodes per year. Did I miss an official announcement of an increase to 24 prior to this extra 25th episode? Or is the extra script order for 3 more episodes?

How sweet it is! Studio 60 is superb drama and last week's episode was one of its best -- love the Hollywood Ten memories, and Tom and his parents. Loved the whole da*n thing.
As for The Nine, I am waiting and waiting and getting more and more bored. Don't think I'll bother with the next episode.
Too bad ER was a repeat this week, but yay for an extra episode.
I will give up CSI Miami for FNL. They both give me headaches. Horatio: talk about preachy and condescending. FNL: well, a block away from my bedroom window, my neighborhood high school football team is already making enough noise for me.
Re Traveler: I didn't see the trailer but from these comments know I'd like it. So cutting down to 8 shows can be rectified, maybe, once it airs, and people watch it and love it enough to DO something about keeping it on the air, as we (the TV audience) seem to have done with FNL.
