Could "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine" be waiting in the wings? The Gong Show is making a return to Comedy Central in July.

Dave Attell, star of the network's Insomniac series, will host the offbeat talent show. "Stars will be made. Feelings will be hurt," he said.

I was wondering when the CIA was going to recognize Dave's unique skillset - ability to be drunk and awake for long periods overnight - and recruit him for secret agent assignments.

And now, it has happened.

Ah, childhood during the '70s. Innocent memories. I just hope they find similarly wacky judges (I guess Paula Abdul will be unavailable). Even then, I just assumed the contestants, the judges and the host were all either high or tripping...except for a few who were just too earnest, unsophisticated, or carefree to realize how ridiculous they were.

What was the prize? A check for whatever the scale payment for stage talent was back then? Some pitiful amount. I guess with inflation and hard-nosed labor/management negotiations it must have gone up. Can't wait.

Maybe I'm hopelessly out of touch, but I have no clue who Dave Attell is (don't watch anything on Comedy Central). I fear no-one can fill Chucky baby's shoes anyway....Good luck!!

I agree with Maryb...it will take someone pretty special to fill Chuckie's shoes. So far Attell has a strike against him: he's nowhere near as cute as Chuck Barris. Let's hope he has the goofy factor, and that the humor doesn't get too crude. Let's keep it a family show!

If they want a watchable show, they need Jaye P. Morgan.
