Will Galactica Split Season 4? Plus Spin-off, DVD News

Sci Fi Channel execs continue to be at odds over whether to cleave the final season of Battlestar Galactica into two 10-episode chunks. As one source tells TV Week, "the money people" are itching to amortize the pricey series across two half-seasons. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, however, tells the trade it might be better to run all 20 at once, "so [the fans] don't have to wait" — especially since viewers reportedly will "freak out" when they see the ending of Episode 10. A decision on the game plan may not come until January.

Elsewhere, Sci Fi is said to be pondering a two-hour standalone Caprica spin-off movie that, if successful, would serve as a pilot for a new character-driven, less-action-heavy series.

Also, TVGuide.com has learned that the Season 3 DVD set isn't due out until spring 2008.

SPRING 08!!??? What the frak for? Originally it was supposed to be out this August! They are really trying to loose fans and money aren't they. Get a clue Sci-Fi...give us what will make us happy and we will be more inclined to continue watching your channel that keeps canceling our favorite shows!

LOL, more character driven than BSG already is? There were a few times last season that it started to look like a soap instead of a sci-fi show. I've never thought of BSG as being heavy on action.

Spring 2008?? But I thought it was coming out in December. Are you sure you're sure?

Razor is coming to DVD in December. Thus my reasoning for calling BS on spring 08 for season 3 DVD's!

Razor is Dec. 4. S3 set is Spring 2008.

Hmm... I don't know about the the two half seasons. I'd rather enjoy the final 20 episodes all the way through.

Sucks that Caprica: The Series didn't pull through, but hopefully the movie is good enough and successful enough for the full-on series.

That is so unfair. I never watched BSG until this summer and only because of all the talk it got. My friend let me watch his season DVD's, so I still haven't seen season 3 yet. I wish they'd release it before the season started. I don't want to watch this season until I'm caught up.

I am spreading the word about a letter writing campaign against the Scifi Channel proposed split of BSG 4.0. Go to my blog, copy and paste the letter and send it to Bonnie Hammer. "There are limits. To the human body, to the human mind. Tolerances that you can't push beyond. Well, those are facts. Provable facts! Everybody has their limit." -Gaius Baltar

I've been really patient. Seems like everyone else has already watched downloads of season 3, but for many months I've told myself "just wait until Autumn, season 3 will be on DVD soon enough, do the right thing and wait for the DVDs". And I've succeeded in being patient. But there are limits. Season 3 was released in the UK in early September. That's about right. I can hold out until Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving, when everyone will be in stores looking to buy season 3), but not much longer than that.

Baltar's words should resonate in the ears of the fools who think that delaying the DVD release of Season 3 won't cause fans to drift away.

My husband and I watched Seasons 1 and 2 on dvd early this year. We finished just as Season 3 was ending, and assumed we'd only have a few month wait for the Season 3 DVDs. Now they're saying SPRING?? What possible reason is there for that? Why would they not want people caught up on the series so that we can watch Season 4 live, thereby giving them higher ratings??? I'm very frustrated. Last March we were obsessed with getting to the new season, and now my interest is waning as each week passes.
