What the Frak? No New Battlestar Until 2009

Battlestar Galactica fans are well-advised to sit back and savor this Friday's midseason finale, because the balance of Season 4 — the series' last, lest we forget — won't be hitting the tube until after "the first of the year," says executive producer Ronald D. Moore. And that's a best-case scenario.

At a Wednesday-night screening of this week's episode, Moore explained to TVGuide.com that even though they are currently filming the series' final scenes, the "practical realities" of post-production — coupled with the formidable end-of-year competition presented by new fall series, baseball and football — places the onset of the final episodes at the start of 2009, at the earliest. "Realistically, there's no way to get back on the air faster," he apologetically added.

What's your take? Sure to be worth the wait? Or does it sound like a frakkin' eternity? — Matt Mitovich, with reporting by Anna Dimond and Erin Fox

I'm frakkin annoyed! I love the show and will definitely wait, but it just ticks me off that I have to wait 6 months, possibly more for the conclusion. Why is it so hard for the cable networks to just air their shows seasons episodes consecutively? Of course I'll be there in 2009, but I'm not a happy camper about it.X-(

I will be impatiently waiting for the next six months. I think Sci Fi is just dragging this out though. Even before the strike they were saying it was going to be split apart like this.

I'm less angry than I thought I would be. But it still sucks. Oh well at least 2009 will start out awesome.

And... I'm SO excited for the "midseason" finale. The previews looked crazy!

I find it hard to believe this is about editing. The production team at Lost managed to crank out 5 episodes in a matter of weeks. The Sci-Fi channel is just being greedy in trying to delay the episodes.

Why don't they just call it what it is...Season 5.

Didn't Sci Fi originally say Season 4 would premiere in Jan 08', but then they pushed it back to April! It's going to be a long year!

I think it would be far better to air all the episodes back to back. By the time January 2009 rolls around, I will have totally forgotten about what happened, and will probably have moved on to something else.

It's just like you said. This is really going to be season 5. They produced 20 episodes for season 4 and only aired 10. They should just call it season 5 and be done with it.
It's understandable and expected (by me a least) that those final episodes would air next January. SciFi wouldn't want to waste them in the (Very) low rated summer months and they don't really schedule that much in the fall to begin with. Waiting till January will make those episodes that much sweeter.

If they rush them then everyone here will be complaining about how bad they are. At least we will be sure that the episodes will be exactly what Ron and David and the rest of the crew wanted. That is a good thing. January isn't that long. "Big Love" isn't scheduled to return until January '09 either and the last original episode of that was in August of 2007. By comparison 5 months is a cake walk. "The Shield" and "Rescue Me" waits are also an eternity. Five months is going to be rough, but at least it isn't a year or longer. My fear was that they would wait to May 2009 and package it as a new season so they could have 2 sets of DVDs.

Crap! I knew they were going to stretch it out like this.

I agree it's the SciFi Channel trying to keep their most popular series going as long as possible.

Mostly I'm annoyed that it took them this long to fess up to the fact that they were going to string us along until 2009. You know they have planned on this for a long time.

This doesn't bother me than much since Sci Fi has basically implied this for a while. The only thing that annoyed me what Sci Fi promotion of the first half of Season Four. They misled fans by proclaiming the "Final Revelation" was close.

In fact, I don't see why they didn't call these 10 episodes as Season 4 and the last 10 episodes as Season 5. Then again The Sopranos final season was split up by 10 months. On the bright side, early '09 is going to be good time for tv with the return of FNL on NBC, BSG, Lost, Damages, and Reaper.

We already knew this but it stinks to have it confirmed again. Did they say how many episodes we can expect? It's a fabulous show but if the PTB such as Moore ever really sit down and consider why it never got the fan based it deserved - it is because of 6-7 month long breaks between seasons. Oh well. I'll still be watching.

Before Season 4 even began, this hiatus had been planned. SCI-FI planned on stretching BSG out all along. And now that they are actually going to make us wait, I will move on to something else!
