Ronald D. Moore has scored a new two-year, seven-figure deal with NBC Universal Media Studios, where he will continue overseeing Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica during its final run, as well as develop new projects. NUMS, says Variety, is hot to get a new Moore series on the air for fall 2008, perhaps a comedy ("When an Earthling and a Cylon wind up as roommates, it's pure mayhem!") or even another sci-fi redo. "It sort of depends on what it is," Moore tells the trade. "My first instinct is to do something new and of my own [creation]. But I'm not averse to doing a new spin on something else. I will be as curious as you to see what my next project is."

On the feature front, Moore is at work on a sequel to I, Robot and a remake of John Carpenter's The Thing.

If someone was smart -- really smart -- they'd offer Joss Whedon the chance to do Firefly again. I suppose Fox has the contract wrapped up or something, but maybe it could be bought from them. BSG shows there is a place for that kind of quality s-f.

Why in the world would anyone remake Carpenter's The Thing? That is a classic! Maybe the special effects would be better, but the mood and ensemble acting is top notch. I'll skip that remake!

On a totally shallow note - I love BSG but I wonder if it's time for Ronald Moore to stop rockin' the 80's hairstyle? Maybe he's in an 80's hair band during the off season.

I love his podcast but I do wonder if Ronald has a tendency to take himself a wee bit too seriously....

Or maybe I just said those snarky things because I'm heartbroken by looming end of my beloved BSG....

I would follow any show, re-make or new, Ron Moore does. It's just too bad Battlestar is ending this year.

The Thing was a remake/reimaging of a movie from '51, The Thing from Another Planet. Many times I think remakes are a bad thing. However the vast majority of the time I love them, sometimes even more than the originals. I love both The Incredible Journey and Homeward Bound. I saw the 80s version of Thing when I was 12 in the theaters. Grossed me out royally, but I loved it. Now that I am a couple of decades older I probably won't be going to see the remake. I really don't like a lot a blood now. Needless to say I don't do too mant Tarentino movies! lol

Personally, I'd love to see a gritty remake of "Mork & Mindy." Mork would be an interstellar serial killer, and Mindy would be the mentally challenged prostitute who helps him discover his humanity.......

Why won't everyone just leave my Thing alone!!! (wait, that didn't come out right!):^O
Seriously, Hollywood-stop messin' with the classics! Originality-look it up-it's in the dictionary! (and yes, I do know that the Thing is also a remake...)

Remake Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, but with more of a gritty edge. That would be awesome!

Remake Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, but with a more gritty edge to it. That would be cool.

So I guess that Caprica spinoff of BSG is long since dead.
