X-Men Marks the Spot for Friday Night Lights Hunk

As X-Men Origins: Wolverine kicks off filming in Oz this month, the flick has added Friday Night Lights hottie Taylor Kitsch to the cast. He'll be playing Gambit, to the delight of us Kitsch lovers (and FNL die-hards).

Along with Kitsch, the X-Men spin-off has also added a few other notables to its roster of thesps. Hip-hopper will.i.am has signed on, as has Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston and Lynn Collins as, respectively, Sabretooth, William Stryker and Silver Fox. Hugh Jackman will be back, of course, in the title role. — Anna Dimond

UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds (Definitely, Maybe) has been cast as Deadpool.

I pray Brett Ratner has no involvement with this movie, he completely destroyed X3. Otherwise, I'm game for seeing this when it comes out.

OK, while X3 did deviate from the core X-Men mythology, at least it wasn't boring like Superman Returns.

I definitely did not drink the "Brett Ratner raped the third X-Men movie and then dragged it across the coals" Kool-Aid. Was it better than the second one? No, but it wasn't all that worse than the first and it certainly wasn't even terrible. It just wasn't that good. At least he didn't make anyone dance or get weird emo haircuts. Or give anyone annoying bastard kid. Or put Nick Nolte in it. Let's all focus our Ratner hatred where it is deserved: Rush Hours 2 and 3.

Taylor Kitsch as Gambit? Me no likey. Who is will.i.am going to be? Why is he even there? Why can't just actors be in movies these days? Yeesh! This movie sounds worse and worse. I will still be there on opening day though.

Although Kitsch as Gambit isn't a bad choice, I'd rather see Aimee Teegarden cast as Illyana "Magik" Rasputin in a Peter Berg-directed X-Men 4. "Julie" and "Juno" -- waaaay better team-up than Thelma & Louise. Especially if they'd be able to bring Lockheed in, too.

Olomaya - will.i.am is going to play John Wraith. For those of you who don't know the comic lore, Wraith is a fellow mutant who is part of Team X, a team of mutants from the Weapon X program (that's the programs that gives Wolverine his claws and adamantium). I was a little surprised by his casting too, since he's never really been rumored for another movie, but who knows, he may be good!

Oh, and another cast member was mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter: Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool.

All in all I'm kind of looking forward to this movie. Definitely a "popcorn", fun movie, but I'll be seeing it when it opens.

LOL achyfakey, I've never seen Superman Returns. It looked boring, so I didn't even bother watching. Is that why there's no rush to make a 2nd? I haven't heard anything nor seen the movie's Superman in anything else. Does he not work?

olomaya, you are too nice to Ratner. The movie was seriously disappointing. If it were a stand alone movie, it still would have stunk. :(

Bubba..thanks for the extra info..i saw the will i. am & ryan reynolds info on another site, but not the characters they'll play.

i dunno, i'm excited by any wolverine movies! so i'll check it out. (and, they keep upping the "hottie" factor, so that doesn't hurt!)

Perfect casting for Gambit.

I pretend like X-Men 3 was a dream.... cause that was the only explanation for it.

I don't think I'm being too nice to Ratner considering wasn't all that terrible and how many other sucky comic book franchise films have come out. It would have been a lot better had they not even bothered to attempt the Phoenix storyline, which could have been a movie in and of itself. As to your query on Superman, Brandon Routh (the actor who played him) was a second rate soap actor plucked from obscurity and should probably be dumped back into it. But I don't blame him for anything in that movie. Last I heard, he got engaged or married.

As per Variety, Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool, with the possibility of a spin-off starring him. This totally ruins my dreams of him starring as Wally West in a Flash feature film. The disappointments just keep coming.

I know a lot of people that actually enjoyed X3 quite a bit. I myself didn't find it as bogged down as X2. And it's a freaking superhero movie, it's supposed to be easy to get and fun. Not a parable about a savior that Superman Returns was. That's why it sucked, people want to be entertained by superheroes. I think all those people that hated X3 already had their minds made up before they watched it.

I'm surprised that no one has said anything about this yet (perhaps I'm too big of a comic geek for my own good) but what the heck is going on with Gambit being involved with Wolvie's life pre-X-Men?

I know that the X-Men movies have played with comic canon (don't even get me started on Cyke and Jean being Iceman's teacher!) but seriously, Wolverine is the most beloved character, you can't just mess with his canon in order to place the (arguably) second most popular character in the movie.

Leslie:"I pretend like X-Men 3 was a dream.... cause that was the only explanation for it."

More like a nightmare of enormous proportions! It was WRONG on so many levels. Jean as a split personality? Please. The Phoenix was a separate entity. I could go on and on...but in short, the Phoenix saga was the wrong story arc to end this series. Blech.

Of course I'll be watching this flick, because hey, it's Hugh Jackman, who ROCKS as Wolverine/Logan.:-x

kctv: "I think all those people that hated X3 already had their minds made up before they watched it. "

Nope. I went in, trying to pretend that the comics didn't exist after I'd heard what the storyline was. I TRIED to like it. I couldn't. Ratner destroyed it but good. I would rather that X-3 be put off another year so that it could have been done RIGHT.

AMEN!!!! From what I understand, none of the "X-Men" of Professor Xavier's knew Wolverine before he joined them. There's a host of other mutants, good mutants that were in his life pre-Xavier.

I'll never understand why they've got to mess with the cannon! I realize Spidey is Stan Lee's favorite, which is why THAT particular tries to stay as close to the comic as possible, but it isn't difficult to stay true to the comic's history/mythology, imho.

If the opening scene finds Wolverine bursting out of the Danger Room singing "I'm Still Standing", will I be able to get my money back?

It's been obvious from the first movie that the canonical history from the comics is a template for the movies. While disappointing, to me it's more understandable than organic webshooters.

As long as they are playing fast and loose with the history, I have no problem with Gambit being introduced into the Wolverine movie. I mean, what, you're gonna re-do the entire "Nanny" storyline with Storm just to make it match the comic history?

As for Jean/Phoenix, there was not way they'd avoid that storyline. It's one of the most famous in comics history. But what options did they have? Introduce the freakin' Starjammers? I would have loved it. But the general movie-going populace probably wouldn't have bought it if they started bringing in alien races on top of mutants.
