Frasier Star Reveals He's Gay, Public Shrugs and Goes, "Well, Duh!"
AfterElton.com is reporting that David Hyde Pierce's people are finally confirming that he is gay. And by his "people," I mean his representatives. Gays, of course, have always known he is gay. I mean, come on. The website got the official yep after calling to check on an Associated Press story that mentioned the Tony nominee's partner, Brian Hargrove. Of course, even before this, Out magazine included the actor formerly known as Niles on its "Gay Power List."

No big surprise and who really cares? Does it diminish or enhance his talent? Not one little bit. Some day, an actor's sexuality will be non-news and I think that day is almost here. Thank goodness.
I like the way you reported this but sad it had to be reported at all.

David Hyde Pierce is a wonderful actor and hilarious to boot. A part of me thinks I watched Frasier more for his character than Kelsey Grammer's character.
Also saw him in the broadway show Spamalot. AWE.SOME.

I would never say "who cares" to a star coming out. If more stars were out and then accepted by their audience it sends the right message to society.

Good for David. He is hilarious, and a great actor. With the recent coming out of other actors, and even a boy band member, with little fall out, maybe more will become more open. (Hear that, couch jumper? lol)

I've loved David Hyde Pierce since I first saw him on television. That was many years ago on a sitcom called The Powers That Be. He played the suicidal/neurotic (big surprise there) son-in-law of a senator (played by John Forsythe). He was freakin' hilarious! The show unfortunately didn't last that long but it sure was a hoot!

I loved Powers Rachel!! His wife on that show was unique. This coming out reminds me of the episode of Frasier where they were all at a ski lodge. Roz had the hots for the ski instructor and he had the hots for Niles!

Hi FelineFan, I'm glad I'm not alone in my appreciation for this under-rated comedy! I wonder if its on DVD. I'd love to see it again. Actually, this story reminded me of the episode of Frazier where for some reason, all he had to wear were really short tennis shorts and he somehow ended up in a gay bar. He kept trying to prove to his Seattle listening audience that he was straight, but he kept doing things to appear otherwise.

That ep was funny Rachel! Frasier was talking really loud up until the music stops, "I WANT YOU TO GO HOME WITH ME!
Good times, good times. But anyhoo, I thought DHP took his boa off the hook before he left the closet years ago.

Speaking as a straight male, I think DHP was on everyone's gaydar for years. That was half the fun of Niles and Fraisers' sniping at each other on the show.

"I'm shocked " That's sarcasm. I'm sure NBC didn't want that out there while Frasier was on. To most open minded people it would not have mattered like myself, but there are still many that it sadly would have. The man is funny that's the bottom line when doing comedy isn't it?

I agree there's no surprise here but I always loved Niles and the fact I always assumed he was gay didn't diminish that in any way. Although, it was certainly his decision when to come out, I wonder why he didn't do it sooner? I can't imagine it would have mattered to his career much. I'm no expert on the acting business, but does it still hurt an actor's career anymore when they come out? It's not like he's a romantic leading man type, after all.

I'll be very interested to see if a multiple Emmy winner from a long-running hit show will be able to land another mainstream TV series, especially in the part of a straight character. That will be the true test.

I never realized he was gay, but really doesnt matter to me that he is cause DHP, is a very good actor. He cracked me up on Fraiser all the time. And I still watch the reruns. Rachel, I was just thinking about that episode when I was reading some of the comments. And I also loved The Powers that Be....that show was a riot.
