Fall TV: Fox Gives J.J. Abrams Appointment After House

For those who've been keeping an ear to the tracks, Fox's fall plan didn't shake out exactly as expected. Perhaps waylaid by CBS' decision to program Wednesday's 8 o'clock hour with comedies, Fox has opted to counterprogram with Bones. Leading out of House on Tuesdays at 9 is Lost creator J.J. Abrams' much-anticipated Fringe.

On Monday, Terminator and Prison Break have swapped places, with Sarah Connor now opening the night. Wednesday's 9 o'clock hour features 'Til Death and the new comedy Do Not Disturb (née The Inn). Thursday's reality twofer now features Moment of Truth and Kitchen Nightmares, with 5th Grader and Lyrics airing Friday.

Prison Break, Fringe and Bones each will return with two-hour episodes, airing Aug. 25, 26 and 27 (respectively).

Sunday maintains the status quo, with the new animated series Sit Down, Shut Up and The Cleveland Show premiering in spring '09.

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, as expected, won't open until midseason. 24, Idol and Hell's Kitchen all return in January. — MWM

Well I was looking at what shows to save for DVD watching in 2009. "Bones" just made the list. It's a great show but my DVR will be already be busy with "Knight Rider" and "Pushing Daisies" at the same time. I like "Bones" a lot, and I look forward to have 22 brand new episodes next year

I find it interesting that FOX is essentially punting thursday night by only showing reality cr@p.

Monday at 8-9 is really crowded, and with Chuck and Terminator both in that timeslot sharing a similar target audience it's going to hurt both shows. Monday nights are going to be tougher to decide what to watch then thursdays. Looks like I'll be watching a few Monday shows online or downloading them because I'm not getting a 2nd DVR.

obriensg1, choosing a car commercial over Bones? Really? Knight Rider looks a lot like next seasons Bionic Woman barring massive changes, like getting rid of Val "put me to sleep" Kilmer's voice for starters. It doesn't help that in the 2 hour commercial the new Kitt looked a lot weaker then the original when it comes to not taking damage. Hack the car, take down the shield and it's very easy to turn into swiss cheese. It doesn't even have bullet proof glass.

OMG...8-9 on MOnday gonna be full! Chuck, Terminator, Gossip Girl, etc...

Two Josh SChwartz shows against each other???

I don't really care about Chuck and I have a DVR so no problem watching Gossip Girl and Terminator at the same time! (plus GG goes for a different audience than all other shows at that time so hopefully no problem for GG :) )

Wildbill:

It's not punting if Fox's Thursday lineup gives them better ratings than they would get if they showed scripted programming. I can see that lineup #3 in viewers and potentially #2 in 18-49. It's good counterprogramming. Regardless of how you or I feel about reality, the reality (pun intended) is that it's here to stay...

RE: You're right, it does sound crazy. But I thought the movie was kind of fun. Silly, but fun. Since it will probably get axed and "Bones" isn't in danger, I'm watching "Knight Rider. I also didn't mind Kilmer so much. Maybe they'll tell him to perk up, or change the voice. He is playing a computer after all.

I also was planning to watch "Shark" starting this season but I guess that can go on my DVD list, huh?

Since I'm watching way too many shows, with interest in 5 new programs this fall, here is my list of "Save For comfy DVD watching in 2009":
"Bones", "Private Practice", "Dirty Sexy Money", and "Smallville" (An easy decision since my local CW affiliate screws up the audio 4-5 times an episode weekly for 3 seasons now. I kid you not!), and

So what became of K-Ville? Last I had heard is was due back next season - but now seems to be gone from almost everywhere except segments of the Fox website. Anybody got a valid answer for the disappearance of what turned out to be a GOOD show?

They quietly didn't renew K-Ville a long time ago. Anthony Anderson has already taken a starring role on "Law & Order" replacing Jesse L. Martin. He started appearing on the program about 3 weeks ago now.

Is Unhitched officially canceled and I missed it? Not that I care about Unhitched, just curious if the fabulous Rashida Jones is officially available to return to The Office or a spinoff thereof.

can't most dvrs record 2 shows at once? Mine does, and it's not even a bought one. It comes through my cable company.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are going to kill me. Yikes. I need to get a DVR to go with my two VCR's.

I am sorry my mad crush on Chef Ramsey will go unrequited next season since no way can I fit it in. The Office and Supernatural get recorded for multiple viewings which leaves live time for Grey's. (though I have been watching that online lately). I think my computer will get a workout this year.

AND PLEASE CW ~ PUT MOONLIGHT ON SUNDAY! PRETTY, PRETTY, PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!

It's good counterprogramming.

TVJeff, I guess you're right. Only FOX is doing reality as counterprogramming for morons and rednecks on thursday night. They should do well in the under $25K per year household income demographic.
