Fox Fall: Death Lives On, Back to You Won't Be Back
Kelsey Grammer and Patricial Heaton in Back to You by Carin Baer/Fox
With the upfronts officially arriving next week, Fox is among the first to unfurl some of its plans. Per the Reporter, the network has renewed 'Til Death for a third cycle yet is not bringing back Back to You. Though the Grammer-Heaton sitcom drew good notices and decent numbers, it's reckoned that production costs ran too high (due to its marquee stars).
Also, Fox is giving a series pickup to The Inn, which is described as "Upstairs/Downstairs at a hip New York hotel." The pilot was directed by Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), and the cast includes Niecy Nash (Reno 911), Jerry O'Connell (Crossing Jordan), Molly Stanton and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. — MWM

Even though Back to you is (was) not a hilarious show, it's (was) much better than 'Til Death... Why FOX continues to renew it makes absolutely no sense...

I totally agree I sit through til death just to get to Back to You. Back to you has a lot of funny moments death does not. I just don't get it. Take off a funny show with potential and leave an unfunny show with zero potential.

I really liked Back to you, esp. now that the weather girl character is gone. but til death, that show is dumb, it looks poorly shot and well it takes being said again, it is dumb! I can't believe it ould get picked up again and the funnier Back to you would get tossed away.
I miss the days when sitcoms ruled the airways. I am so sick of crime shows. THere is so much saddness, crime, and cruelty in the world in real life...why people want to see a crime show act out a crime "pulled straight from the weeks big story" is beyond me. I like my TV shows to entertain me and distract me from the woes of the real world, not to highlight them.
To see another sitcom go just reminds me of how little america has to laugh at anymore. We seem to prefer scare tactics and murder to a good old fashioned laugh.
Didn't they used to say laughter was the best medicine?

Well I liked the show, It had substance and real comedy, I guess it makes scence why would they keep a good show when they have the bland it has nothing to do with the story Terminator show...

I'm surprised either of them would be coming back, but I predicted Back To You would be back, because the network seemed to be promoting it a lot lately, and both Grammer and Heaton were out on the talk show circuit this week, so I thought it was a shoo-in.
Back To You seemed like a throwback to an 80s sitcom (and not a very good one, in my opinion), and it just seemed to be too loud. Actors of this caliber shouldn't have to holler their lines to get a laugh.
As for 'Til Death, it has always been an embarrassing show to watch. It just proves to me what I already knew: landing on Everybody Loves Raymond was more of a fluke for Brad Garrett. Outside of Ray, he always seems to go for the broader, baser humor.
And as for Fox choosing Death over BTY, this is the network that kept Married With Children on the air for eleven seasons!

Does that mean the end of Reno 911 since Niecy Nash is going to do the Bateman show?

Well I can't say that I'm surprised. BTY seemed to be doomed from the start. I am bummed though, there were a couple of really funny episodes. I kind of liked the classical comedy feel of the show. It was a nice change to the rest of the angst that is on right now.

Let's hope another network picks Back to You up. It has amazing writing and acting and has the potential to be the next great ensemble sitcom.
I'm not surprised Fox made such a stupid decision, though. They're the people that cancelled Firefly, Tru Calling, ETC.
This is not a fun way to start the weekend.

...production costs ran too high (due to its marquee stars)
So in other words, quality might be a tad more expensive--so let's dump it and keep the cheap, crapfest show. Nice. Back to You really was a good show--I will not watch "Til Death for a variety of reasons--main one--it's stupid. Once again, FOX rising to the top--not.

What a shame! I loved this show. I hate Fox for leading fans on making us believe thay they were coming back but they are keeping the mediocre Til Death instead. This news ruined my weekend. Best of luck to the cast and the crew. They deserved better than Fox!

I only watched BTY only once, never found time to put it on my tv schedule. But Im not suprised that Fox canceling good quality shows. This is the same network that canceled Arrested Development. And I never forgave them for that. If it wasn't for a few shows on the network, I would be done with Fox, but I say that about every network that cancels good shows.
Does that mean the end of Reno 911 since Niecy Nash is going to do the Bateman show? I hope not bluefairies I like Reno 911, and Niecy Nash cracks me up on that show.
And TV Gord, I happened to like Married W/ Children. That show still cracks me up.

OK, did Fox not know about its "marquee stars" when they first started the show? I'd say, give it a second season. THEN decide if it's worth the cost. They're willing to do that with 'Til Death(which is more like "filler" programming). If production costs are suddenly too high(after a strike-shortened season), I think that's a shameful move for Fox.

Fox invested in Grammer and Heaton, thinking they'd pull in bigger ratings. They didn't, so Fox can't justify another season of the show. It's that simple.

Sorry, lizzybelle, but I could never stand that show. You have to admit, though, the level of humor was about at the level of anything you'd hear on an elementary school bus.

Married With Children was a very funny show, which is still widely syndicated, that had a great cast. It should in no way be compared to the drivel that is 'Til Death.
