A Fourth Bourne Flick? Forget About It?

This past Sunday, The Bourne Ultimatum took home three technical Oscars for editing, sound editing and sound mixing — every category in which it was nominated. In response, Universal has enlisted director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon in its effort to stage a fourth Bourne film.

But wait, you ask? Didn't Jason Bourne (spoiler alert) recover his memory in Ultimatum, thus eliminating the series' central concept? Um, well, yeah. In fact, Damon said as much while promoting No. 3: "The reality is... the story of this guy’s search for his identity is over. He’s got all the answers. What would the fourth [film] be about?"

[Dream sequence music]

[I raise my hand]

"Yes, Mr. O'Connor?"

"Here's an idea, Mr. Damon. What if Jason tried to find and/or rescue other assassins who'd had their memories altered?"

[Damon shrugs and turns to his publicist with a bug-eyed, get-me-out-of-here look]

"OK, last question, folks…."

[End dream sequence music]

Well, I tried. Your turn: What's your bright idea for a fourth Bourne flick? Make it memorable! — Mickey O'Connor

I'm sorry but my bright idea is NONE. I'm satisfied with the trilogy.

Um, maybe he'll wake up and the last 3 films were just a dream. He has to start over from the first movie. You know, Hollywood is out of ideas when they'd rather ruin a whole series by making more of the movies than letting it go while the going was still good.

Well, the books and the movies have little in common aside from the names, among the many differences is that 'Jason' regained most of his memory in the first book (different "memory" than in the movie). There were two more books written by Robert Ludlum and another written by...someone else (I can't remember) after he knew who he was. Given Jason's rather unique skill set and what I'm sure is an extensive list of enemies, I'm sure they'll come up with something.

If they do make another one, please make sure that Julia Stiles' Nicky either does not appear or is killed off within the first 5 minutes.

Maybe Marie can come back and Jason finds out that she's alive and has her own case of amnesia OR was brainwashed to believe he left her for dead and wants revenge. :^O

BUT, the Bourne Trilogy is seriously one of the best trilogies I've ever seen. I really hope they don't mess with it. If Matt Damon returns, you better believe it's because the script was good enough for him to do it again.

Exactly, the movies deviated from all three books written by Ludlum in the first place so what's the big deal if they go back to the well a fourth time? There are three more books bringing the total to six but those three have not been reviewed kindly.

Hate to be the one who spoils this, but another author took up the reigns after Robert Ludlum (the author of the Bourne series) and there are at least two of them, which I understand the first isn't necessarily that good, but the second one is showing the author getting better at action stories. If they hire a good script writer, the actual stories from these books seem possible as they take place with David Webb (a/k/a Jason Bourne) living as himself.

Although original Bourne author Robert Ludlam died, the series continues with author Eric Van Lustbader picking up the later with Bourne Legacy, Bourne Betrayal, and Bourne Sanction. Sounds like THREE new movies to me!

forget it. just because a movie was good, does it mean we have to look forward to yearly versions of it? this sequelitis has long been found in horror films.(and it doesn't work there either) why must we endure this with mainstream movies?

O.k. We know that in the books, Bourne was "married" to a Vietnamese woman and had two children with her. And we also know that Bourne and Marie were married and had children as well. (O.k. If you didn't know, now you do!)

It was hinted in the last movie that he had a relationship with his handler Nicki. What if that relationship was more? And what about Carlos the Jackal (I loved his character in the books as Bourne's foe!)?

I say: What if Bourne still doesn't know the true extent of his relationship with Nicki? What if Carlos does and goes after Nicki or Bourne's (David Webb's) family (possible parents? possible siblings?, etc).

Or you could just take Nicki out of the equation and still have Carlos go after Bourne's true family in order to smoke Bourne out of hiding for retaliation against something that occurred during their shared past (possibly both were Treadstone agents with Carlos wanting to be the "it" man?).

Just a few thoughts I had running in my head...

After surviving the fall into the river, where does he go and what does he do?

I say the plot will be probably be similar to the book titled "The Bourne Ultimatum". Bourne will be living his life as David Webb when someone from his past forces him to once again retake The Bourne Identity and handle business

They need to stop making them now as they ended on a high note. I read the books years ago, and enjoyed the movies. But to do a 4th would mean that they have to make up a story that was not written by Ludlum - so I say forget it.
