Flight of the Conchords Landing for Good?

Flight of the Conchords' next season take-off may be its last.

According to The New Zealand Herald, famous sons Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie shared with British magazine Q that they were seriously mulling ending the series after the second season due to the creative struggles they've encountered in making it.

"The second series seems to me like it would be a good end to the show," McKenzie said. "I feel like another 10 [episodes]... that will be enough."

The duo, which used already written tunes in the show's first season, is still in the process of writing the new music narratives, which they've found "difficult."

"We've got a lot of half-songs," Clement said. "We've got an album's worth of beginnings of songs."

Season 2 of the HBO cult hit was scheduled for a 2008 bow, but has since been postponed until next year. The comedy is up for four Emmys this month, including two in the Original Music and Lyrics category. — Joyce Eng

It would be a sad shame to lose Bret and Jemaine.

I think they are making a pretty big mistake.

"I think they are making a pretty big mistake."

What possible basis do you have for that statement? Because you want to see more episodes even if they are terrible?

It always baffles me people who desperately want a show to continue no matter what the quality. The same people beg for sequels to films that have no need for a sequel. It is why American Network TV, no matter how good a show, is destined to keep quality programs on the air WAY past their prime. They don't conceive of an entire story, they just get an idea and write it as they go along. Or they DO have an idea, but then force the writers to create filler episodes.

HBO is one of the few remaining outlets that conceives a project from START to FINISH. No they are not perfect, but they are head and shoulders above every thing else on TV it is sad.

If Bret and Jermaine feel they do not have more material to continue creating the level of quality they have created so far, TRUST THEM. You'd rather they churn out another batch of episodes that are below the standard that is set, I am sure, but for those of us who appreciate artistic integrity, we trust these guys to walk away AT THE TOP. No matter if that is after 1 episode, 2 seasons, or 30 seasons. Quality is all that matters, network TV will never learn that (nor should they since they make money off an audience that demands quantity and familiarity of characters over quality as jasobres has demonstrated).

I would be so sad to see them go, but I'd much rather they end it on their terms. I wish it could be open-ended, like some British TV series that sort of go away for a while and then come back when they have material or money or whatever (heck, they're STILL making "Sharpe" episodes like 10 years later).

I just hope they can write a second season they're proud of, and after that I'll keep my fingers crossed for a feature film :)

Yea they relally ended that Sopranos when they were on top...total garbage.

It could be a mistake it could not...they re struggling with new material right now but maybe they will make it over the wall and find something to work with amongst themselves...I think all the previous poster was saying is that it might be worth it to struggle and make it through the season before you put a cap on it....You have to remember that even though their songs are so suited to this, I'm pretty sure its their first time writing for the screen...

They did end The Sopranos on top. The only people I've met so far that didn't like The Sopranos finale are the type of people who never understood what made The Sopranos ORIGINAL and great. Most of those people wanted to see Tony's violent death on screen, and don't realize they did see his death from Tony's perspective. A little too much thinking for the below average Sopranos fan.
