Fall TV: CBS Eyes Several Switcheroos
Scott Foley, Dennis Haysbert and Max Martini in The Unit by Cliff Lipson/CBS
CBS has sent out its fall lineup, and in addition to adding five new series, the Eye is shuffling around three returning favorites.
Old Christine, which to the surprise of many was plucked from ABC's anxious grasp and kept on at CBS, now will lead off Wednesday nights. That sets the table for Project Gary, a new comedy starring Jay Mohr as a recent divorcé. With Rules of Engagement on hold until midseason, Worst Week (Jericho's Kyle Bornheimer and Kitchen Confidential's Erinn Hayes are newly engaged) will join the Monday comedy block.
CBS Tuesday still starts out with NCIS, but then continues with The Mentalist (starring Simon Baker) and Without a Trace (landing on a new night).
Claiming Trace's Thurday-at-10 spot is Jerry Bruckheimer's Eleventh Hour. One of the perhaps oddest fits has The Ex List, a big ol' romantic dramedy, filling the Friday gap between Ghost Whisperer and Numbers.
The Unit now calls Sundays-at-10 home. Harper's Island, a murder mystery, debuts midseason. — MWM

Ok, so not loving the Sunday at 10 slot for The Unit. I thought it was perfect paired with NCIS. Whatever.

The Unit doesn't really fit well after Cold Case, but it makes more sense to launch a new show out of NCIS than out of Cold Case.

mackattack - I couldn't have said it better myself. I had a big sigh of relief when I heard they were bringing The Unit back! Now, if only the same were true for Moonlight...

If only they'd brought Shark back. They picked up Worst Week? As a Brit I can tell you it's awful!

What's the story with Moonlight? The show fit right in following Ghost Whisperer. Suppose this is another GOOD show you'll ax, like you did Jericho!

Ah. man. Just as we were about to get rid of ER all the competition moves out of the way? Last time this happened the ratings went up slightly and the media went ballisitic begging NBC not to cancel it, despite the fact that those numbers plunged by half over the course of the year. This show is truly undead. We will never get rid of it.

Why would they put Without a Trace up against SVU? Don't they pull in the same type of viewers? I watch both shows, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Although I've been frustrated with both of them this season, I think Without a Trace will be the loser here. I'll be choosing SVU instead.

How fitting that The Eye is moving a show called "The Ex List" into the "Moonlight" slot because that's EXACTLY where CBS's Friday night lineup is with me...on my own personal EX list.
Bitter much? You betcha!!! After all the positive vibes and all the seeming extra effort on the part of CBS, the network sticks a fork in "Moonlight" and says it's done.
Yo, EYE! I'll be following the advice of one your precious procedurals theme songs -- WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!!!

I'm not happy that they are moving The Unit to Sundays. I felt it did fit well with NCIS on Tuesdays. It does not seem like it would be a good fit with Cold Case. Honestly, I wonder what people prefer more, back-to-back shows that are similar in nature, or back-to-back shows that are completely opposite of each other. Like others, I guess I should just be happy it returned at all.
Also, what is with moving Without A Trace? Though I sort of understand because CSI is CSI and the new show seems to be backed by Jerry Bruckheimer, a.k.a., "Mr. CSI". I guess they are trying to find something to stop the L&O: SVU stranglehold that occurs on at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays. And since Trace pulled in good numbers against ER, I'm assuming they figure they can't do worse than what they were pulling in.
I am upset that they are putting some romantic comedy show on during GW and Numb3rs. I guess their thinking is that dramas, both crime and Sci-Fi didn't work, so why not try something light-hearted. I see their point, because both GW and Numb3rs, at times, are heavy shows and do not have many light-hearted moments, but then again, I thought Moonlight was a good fit. Maybe people got overloaded on the Ghosts/Vampires with the back-to-back shows.

I plan on watching Life on Mars during that time slot...hope it's good! I dropped ER years ago.
I just hope that Eli Stone does well against SVU and WaT. I like Trace, but it seems to always be scheduled against something else that I watch (and I don't care enough about the show to record it) or I have no idea when it's on.
