Fall 2007: Battlestar's Lawless Joins the Wives
Up-to-the-minute casting news for the upcoming pilot season, courtesy of Variety and the Hollywood Reporter:
• Why didn't we see this coming a mile away? Lucy Lawless has scored the role of "ruthless, bitchy" Tanya in ABC's Football Wives. UPDATE: Speaking of BSG.... Some fresh Ausiello scoopage!
• CSI's Louise Lombard has landed the title role in Judy's Got a Gun, ABC's drama about a woman juggling single motherhood with her job as a detective. I like to think of it as "Close to Homicide."
• 24 alumna Sarah Clarke is Famke Janssen's younger sister and best bud in NBC's drama about a female cop.
• Bridgette Wilson-Sampras is (kinda of course) a promiscuous neighbor in ABC's Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
• Ana Claudia Talancón (The Crime of Father Amaro) has the title role in Whitney, HBO's comedy about a beautiful, self-confident woman who manipulates men.
• Big Day's Miriam Shor has joined CBS' 1970s-set Swingtown.
• John Francis Daley (Kitchen Confidential) is a naive paramedic trainee in ABC's The Call.

I love Lucy Lawless, but isn't she a bit old to be playing Tanya Turner? Tanya was in her mid 20s in the British version.

Aside from the age difference (with Lawless) this is great casting! I love Lucy and would like to see her as a regular on any show! Now if they don't mind skewing a bit older, please, casting gods, Locklear...Locklear...
Also as a Billy Madison fan, I'm thrilled about the Bridgette Wilson-Sampras pick.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the British show, but the British Tanya doesn't look in her 20's to me at ALL. I think Lucy is a great choice. Lord knows that she can do campy well from her Xena days.

Lol, foghat, I make the same mistake too whenever I see Sarah Clarke's name. I had to reread it.
As for the British version of Footballers Wives. I think Tanya is in her late 20s/early 30s so the age thing it's a huge stretch assuming Lawless' Tanya will be mid-30s, which I buy.

I've seen the british version of Wives and I would have guessed Tanya was in her mid-30s (34, 35). I think Lucy Lawless will be excellent in that role. She's used to playing strong characters and Tanya is perhaps the strongest most resiliant in the British version. I'm guessing the American version will be toned down a bit from the British version since it will be a network show.
Matt you should definitly talk to ABCs excs, "Close to Homicide" has a much better ring to it then the campy sounding "Judy's Got a Gun." Or is it supposed to be a comedy?

As if CBS would allow them to do Close to Homicide, but it sounds better. But I'm hoping they can get Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" for the credits.
