An "Affair" to Forget: Gossip Site Apologizes to Parker
Tony Parker and Eva Longoria Parker by Johnny Nunez/WireImage.com
X17 Online, which in December gave an unvetted source a forum to cast aspersion on Tony Parker's fidelity to new bride Eva Longoria, now has issued a mea culpa — though you would be hard-pressed to unearth it on their site. Buried far from the homepage, posted without anything resembling a headline and riddled with bad grammar and "various" typos, X17's perhaps lawsuit-induced statement reads, "[We] published over 10 articles concerning Tony Parker and a woman named Alexandra Paressant.... Since the publication of these articles, [we] have discovered that Mr. Parker has never met with, or spoken to, Ms. Paressant, nor has he ever had sexual relations with her. [We] regret having been misled... and apologize to Mr. Parker for any damage or inconvenience this may have caused him or his wife."
Shortly after X17 ran with Paressant's original tale, the Parkers filed a lawsuit seeking $40 million in damages. — MWM

I hope that website gets sued into oblivion! I don't go to the Perez site and the sites of the Perez wannabes. They may be "fun" for some people, but they start to pollute your mind. Gossip is taken as gospel on those sites by the gullible readership, and it diminishes everyone (including the reader).

Agreed!
Good for Eva and Tony for suing X17. I hope they get at least 40 million and the kitchen sink from the X17 employee lounge.
Thank you, TVGuide, for bringing attention to the retraction that X17 tried to hide. It's one thing to report on celebrities - it's another thing to promote blatant lies.

Well said, TV Gord. I've always believed most stuff written in gossip blogs and magazines are blatantly made up (especially when you read in OK! that X and Y are breaking up and then in US Weekly that they're pregnant and getting married, and then NEITHER happens). Once our society gets over this obsession, we'll be far better off.

That's exactly why I reported on this. Burying retractions is not cool.

That's why we--the right-thinking media consumers--come here to tvguide.com, Matt.

And why would Tony cheat when he's married to someone as gorgeous and sexy as Eva - he'd be nuts to step out on that!
Glad the rumors were just that and wish all the best to Tony and Eva.

It seems, I, like some others were right not to think too much of the “Eva stands by her perfect husband” negativity. I did not appreciate the “BS” and “name calling.” Which, as it turns out, was based on lies. Thank you, TV Guide, for putting X17’s retraction under the harsh spotlight, where it so deserves to be. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have made my morning.

Good for Eva and Tony! This is America damn it. Thanks TV Guide for putting this on the frontpage when the liar website tried to bury their apology on theirs.

Good for Eva and Tony! As a Spurs fan, we love Tony and he has always demonstrated himself to be a good role model. He and Eva seem to work for each other and they deserve the best!

Burying corrections and apologies is hardly limited to gossip rags. The mainstream, "respectable" media routinely do the same thing.
Remind me to chide TV Guide the next time it helps to spread an item initiated by "news sources" like X17. TVG is hardly in the clear when it comes to reprehensible reporting of the "news".
Also, I read the X17 apology--and I can't find the typos and bad grammar you alluded to.

This is where I point out to mjkbk that our original story from December ("Eva Stands by 'Perfect Husband' Amid Affair Buzz") stemmed not from the X17 gossip (which I had made a point of ignoring), but only when Eva and Tony addressed it publicly.

X17, aside from having no class, apparently have no balls either! If you go out on a limb and it breaks, blame yourself for going there. Don't try to hide your total stupidity and lack of integrity by muttering apologies into your armpit! (Printing the retraction somewhere in the crap commercial section and in small print to boot probably!) These 'Muckrakers' could only aspire to becoming pond scum. As a mater of fact, pond scum is probably very offended by any relation to X17 made in the media. The people who go to these lengths to "make-up" stories about someone, should be jammed head first into a repeatedly used toilet, and left to ferment for a couple of days! Just me and my '2 cents' again. Johnnie.

Matt, you may have ignored X17's original item when it first appeared, but you sure gave the story full exposure once Ms. Longoria denied it. And that "double-dribbling" comment you added? I call a personal foul on that one.
