DA Rejects Rape Case Against Jericho Star

No criminal charges will be filed against Esai Morales (Jericho, NYPD Blue), whose ex-girlfriend had claimed he raped her in April 2006, a spokesperson for the prosecutor announced on Friday. "I'm happy that my client was vindicated," the AP quotes Morales' attorney as saying. "He was never questioned by the police, never taken into custody, there were never any charges brought against him."

The accuser has also filed a civil suit, charging that Morales raped her and in turn gave her herpes. That lawsuit is awaiting trial and, says the plaintiff's lawyer, might introduce additional evidence that could convince the DA's office to move ahead with criminal charges.
