Eric McCormack by Steve Granitz/WireImage.com
Will & Grace's Eric McCormack has been tapped to star in the TNT drama pilot Truth in Advertising, playing a family-man art director trying to negotiate the politics of the snake-oil biz. Ed's Tom Cavanagh is in talks to play his copywriter partner (no, not that kind of partner).... Joseph Fiennes will undergo some nipping and tucking of his own as the star of Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy's untitled drama (née 4 Oz.) about a husband and father who opts for a sex change. Blythe Danner and Robert Wagner play his folks.... Jenna Elfman is reuniting with Dharma & Greg boss Dottie Dartland Zicklin, who has come onboard to run the show at Literary Superstar, Elfman's new comedy about a book publicist to quirky (read: zany!) authors.

Just for the record I like to see people get work. In fact I am happiest for Eric McCormack as I think he is talented and I loved Will & Grace. I never want to see anyone struggle but come on already (This is in reference to the recycled show runners, writers, producers and not the talent in front of the camera - i.e. the writer for Jenna Elfman's new show/Ryan Murphy from the overplayed Nip/Tuck). The talent behind each and every show these days are the same people. It is so rare you see or hear about a deal, especially in television, that involves a new or unknown writer or creator. In fact I was watching Back To You and as the producers were scrolled across the bottom during the opening scene I noticed every single name was either from Frasier, Just Shoot Me, Will & grace, and Roseanne - all great shows but maybe that is why traditional sitcoms these days seem so stale. The writer must have recycled about 50 jokes I have heard in other sitcoms (I did have a few laughs though).

get some new blood - I for one am itching to make America laugh but since I have no connections and my agent is small potatoes by some standards I have to work twice as hard to get half as far. Thanks God for Sally Kirkland (pay attention to the trades in the next few weeks and you will understand).

Jenna Elfman's new series idea has a great deal of potential. You'd probably have to know some authors to understand, but oy vey! "Quirky" and "zany" are only the half of it.

Doesn't McCormack's new series sound an awful lot like Mad Men? Granted, I've never watched an episode, but the premise seems kinda familiar...
