Emmys 2008: Guest Star Glover Gets Brotherly Love

Danny Glover on Brothers & Sisters by Richard Cartwright/ABC
The unofficial list of Emmy semifinalists in the Guest Actor in a Drama race has arrived, showing the requisite mix of love and snub. Danny Glover gets recognition for his role in Brothers & Sisters, while Irish looker Aidan Quinn is left out of the running for his Law & Order: SVU visits. Keith Carradine was a bit of a surprise, perhaps only because for some of us (cough), everyone is overshadowed in the presence of Michael C. Hall — but all the more reason to laud great work.

Below are the top 10 semifinalists, courtesy GoldDerby.com. Who do you feel has been rightly included, and who's been snubbed?

Guest Actor in a Drama
Keith Carradine, Dexter
Charles Durning, Rescue Me
Danny Glover, Brothers & Sisters
Robert Morse, Mad Men
Peter O'Toole, The Tudors
Oliver Platt, Nip/Tuck
Peter Riegert, Damages
Stanley Tucci, ER
Glynn Turman, In Treatment
Robin Williams, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

The episode of SVU with Robin Williams was one of the absolute worst episodes of that show.

Oliver Platt? For Nip/Tuck?! Seriously.

The Emmy voters should be ashamed of themselves for once again snubbing The Wire in every single category. It's an absolute tragedy how they can consider themselves important people in the process yet ignore some of the 5 most expertly crafted seasons in TV history.

Ugh. Robin Williams? Really? Shows how much name recognition matters versus the actual performance. Not that I should be surprised about that.

Glynn Turman absolutely deserves the Emmy for his fabulous performance as Alex's father on In Treatment.

cohenjor You are right right right. The Wire being snubbed by the Emmys is the most bafling thing in television since the ressurrection of David Hasselhoff's career. The only snubs I can compare it to are: Elvis Presley not winning a Grammy until 1967 and that, like his subsequent two others, was for religious recordings; Peter O'Toole never winning an Oscar; Elisabeth Hasselbeck not yet having been committed to an institution for the criminally stupid.

Seriously, John Glover. I love John Glover, but he was so boring on B&S, his tone of voice and facial expressions never changed. Oliver Platt on Nip/Tuck, what a joke. Man, is this political or what????

And again, again, I'm so tired of the Wire snubs and Battlestar Galactica snubs and I am definitely not watchng the Emmys this year.

Everyone griping about the snub of "The Wire" is forgetting that the series IS up for best series contention. So keep your hopes up! (As for the BSG snubs -- every other year, it was unjust. This year, not so much. But even with a somewhat lackluster fourth season, Mary McDonnell is on the shortlist for a Best Actress in a Drama nod.)

As for this category: I almost don't see how Robert Morse can lose.

The man's name is Danny Glover. John Glover is a whole 'nother actor. If you're gonna diss a man, at least get his name right...

maryb889 - why don't you get whatever is sticking you, you know where and chill out. DANNY Glover was very very boring on Brothers and Sisters. End of story, my opinion.

Hang in there maryb889. Don't worry too much about the opinion of someone who can't even write a complete or even comprehensible sentence.

Personally the Emmys are too predictable. I think it is unbelievable neither Moonlight, Alex O'Loughlin or Sophia Myles were not nominated. This drama was canceled by CBS which also was unbelievable. The acting was excellent and the storyline was unique. Most shows stay the course on sameness and Moonlight dared to stray off course. TV in America is oftentimes boring and too dumbed down , I've read newspapers are written for a fifth grade education and I think with the prevalence of reality shows the networks are shooting for a third grade education.
