Emmys 2008: Lights Out for Connie Britton in Supporting Actress Race
Connie Britton by Jason Kempin/WireImage.com
Tom Oh! and his GoldDerby.com buds have been busy, busy. On the heels of flagging the semifinalists in the Supporting Actor in a Drama and Lead Actress in a Comedy Emmy races, they now have sussed out the short (though not shortest) list for Supporting Actress in a Drama... and Friday Night Lights fave Connie Britton ain't on it. Britton vied in the lead category last year and in doing so netted a top 10 nod, yet this time around she put herself up for supporting. And came up with nada, sadly.
The 10 semifinalists are:
Jane Alexander, Tell Me You Love Me Candice Bergen, Boston Legal Rose Byrne, Damages Jill Clayburgh, Dirty Sexy Money Sharon Gless, Burn Notice Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters Christina Hendricks, Mad Men S. Epatha Merkerson, Law & Order Sandra Oh, Grey's Anatomy Dianne Wiest, In Treatment Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy
More Emmys 2008 coverage: • Supporting Actor Winner Terry O'Quinn MIA from this Year's Race • List of Comedy Actress Finalists Has Silverman Eyeing Gold • Comedy and Drama Series Semifinalists Revealed

If this list is for real then...
Are you flippin' KIDDING ME?!? No Yunjin Kim from Lost??!!??

You've GOT to be joking. Because that woman's performance in the finale was BEYOND amazing, and merits at least a nom if not an outright win!!!!

I have to applaud the selection of Sharon Gless for Burn Notice. She's so much fun to watch each week and really sort of steals the show.

My hopes...
Jill Clayburgh, Dirty Sexy Money Sharon Gless, Burn Notice Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters Christina Hendricks, Mad Men Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
I understand January Jones (Betty Draper in Mad Men) placed her name in this category rather than Lead Actress...surprised she didn't make the cut...

Whoever the genius was who advised Connie Britton to submit herself in the Supporting category rather than Lead should be shot. If you got a nom in the Lead category the previous year, why would you mess with that? I so wanted her to get a nomination And I wholeheartedly agree about Yunjin Kim. WTF?!

The Connie Britton thing is crazy. She's the lead on that show!!
Anyway, in this category, I'd go with Rose Byrne because there are many names there for shows I don't watch and Byrne was excellent in her show.

I have to agree witht those puzzled by the omission of Yunjin Kim and January Jones. I would have picked either of them to win, let alone be nominated! My choices from the list:
Rose Byrne, Damages Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters S. Epatha Merkerson, Law & Order Jill Clayburgh, Dirty Sexy Money Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
WIth either Byrne (who was really underrated with Close and Danson sharing the screen) or Hendricks winning.

Look, we all expected Connie to get screwed over. It doesn't make it right but it did not surprise me. Actually, it's ridiculous because even with all the changes for her character's life this season, Connie was so on and in touch with the character she created the first season. But I never expected to see her name on the ballot.
But no Yunjin Kim? That's a freaking travesty! Absolutely ridiculous.

No Connie Britton or Yunjin Kim? Then this can't possibly be a list of the "best". I absolutely love the scenes with Eric and Tami Taylor having a conversation where they're just talking over each other, because they seem so real, not scripted. And Yunjin's portrayal of Jin's grief and anguish couldn't have been done any better.
Of the shows represented here, I only watch Grey's and Burn Notice (and I missed many of the episodes.) I would watch Mad Men if I got AMC; while I've never seen it, I'm pulling for Christina Hendricks to win, because I think she's a great actress.

Diane Wiest is excellent but come on, Mia Wasikowska "In Treatment" deserves to be in this list of 10. This young girl made Wednesday's "In Treatment" appointment television with her believable anguished performance as "Sophie". This young girl is someone to keep looking for.
How these people give crap like "Grays Anatomy" multiple slots when the finest supporting actresses on television Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Lucy Lawless, and Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") don't get One lousy spot.
Cripes January Jones "Mad Men" deserves one of these slots as well. Congrats to Christina Hendrix and to Sharon Gless who was great on "Burn Notice".

I am so glad Chandra Wilson is on the list. She is always amazing and her scenes on Grey's are always high on my list of favorites.
Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy Rose Byrne, Damages Christina Hendricks, Mad Men Candice Bergen, Boston Legal
