Emma Watson, Actress, Weighs Options Before Signing on for Last Potter Pics

According to wicked, wicked online reports, Emma Watson has yet to sign on for the final two Harry Potter films — and, say some nasty rumors, will hold to that decision, even if producers were to jack up the 16-year-old's pay to £2 million (roughly $3.8 mil) a picture. "Emma doesn't want to do it anymore. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter,'" that redheaded kid from Harry Potter (Rupert Grint) supposedly told the U.K. tabloid News of the World. "Daniel [Radcliffe] and I are distant from her now. We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming."

In a statement issued Monday morning, a Warner Bros. spokesperson maintains, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films 6 and 7" — or else they'll get themselves a Gyllenhaal.

EDITED to make overall tone of the blurb more Potterphile-friendly. Last thing I need is, like, a spell of Perpetual Flatulence cast on me. (Again.)

WOW! Talk about being greatful to the Harry Potter franchise for making her career. Maybe she will remain "that girl from Harry Potter".

I understand how she must feel.... After all - she's been associated with this role for what must feel like most of her professional life. And they keep dragging out how long it takes to do the films.

Whether she does the film or not she's still going to be known as "That girl from Harry Potter." Add "stupid" to that title if she doesn't do the final 2 films.

It's not as though her career is taking off on other projects yet. I guess I just can't imagine letting everyone down like that--especially when you know from the beginning that there are 7 books/movies.

Two more movies...that's it! She'll have the rest of her young life to not be the Harry Potter girl! Again, not like NOT doing the films will automatically change that title!

Sigh. I hope she comes around.

Of course, she might be waiting for the 3 million pound offer.

This is sad news. Being a Harry Potter fan myself, this is kind of like a slap in the face.

I do understand that she doesn't want to be "that girl," but come on, is there really anything wrong with being known for being part of one of the biggest motion picture AND literary franchises of all time?

But she should be proud to be part of Harry Potter, and regardless of what she does (like Daniel and Rupert have), they'll still be known for being part of a huge franchise. Its the same for any other actor who takes part in something like this.

Anyway, it seems as if she doesn't care for the millions of fans she's gained worldwide from Harry Potter. It'll be different and really sad.

Thus the reason why 16 year olds dont normally get $3.8 mil paydays..... I'd chalk it up to a typical impulsive teenage girl tantrum (no offense to teenagers, girls, or those who throw impulsive tantrums).

Is it better to be known as "that harry potter girl" or "that girl who passed up two guaranteed hit sequals and abandoned the role that made her career"?

She is 16 so what she was 10 when she did the first film? How can a 10 year old really fanthom a commitement to making 7 films?

Forget my Gyllenhaal suggestion. Can we get Lindsay Lohan circa May 2004?

"Daniel [Radcliffe] and I are distant from her now. We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming."

Ouch!

Hopefully she'll reevaluate things and recognize that whether she does the last two films or not, she's still always going to be "that girl from the Harry Potter films." It's a given, so just do the last two movies and smile about it all the way to the bank, sweetie.

I'd just like to point out that this article is very misleading and Emma Watson HAS NOT turned down the final two films; she is still in negotiations. The UK paper News of the World first broke this "story" by misquoting Rupert Grint.

She will most likely sign for the final two films very shortly.

Emma has been saying for the past year that she wasn't sure about doing the final two. And Rupert's explanation that "she didn't want to be that harry potter girl" was just that--his explanation. In interviews with Emma about this, she has talked about the long, arduous production process and sacrificing her childhood to be in movies. She has every right to say no. If the producers were so sure they were going to do all seven books, they should have gotten signatures a long time ago. This is their fault, not hers. She just wants to be a normal kid for a change. This is a lot of pressure.

I hope that she does sign on. The time to bail on the series was a long time ago, like after the 2nd or 3rd film. Then folks would have had a chance to get used to a new Hermione. Daniel has finally had the opportunity to break out of Harry mode by doing "Equus" in London. If she was really feeling typecast, why hasn't she been trying to get into other roles? I've not heard of her in anything else outside of Potter since it started. I do agree that since she's growing up, and if she does want a career outside of HP, her agent needs to get her other, varied roles. But as others have said, being a part of the Potter saga will be a part of her career for the rest of her life. It's up to her and her talent to see if she can go beyond it.

I understand your "sacrificing her childhood" explanation, ames6254, but IMO, she did that when she decided to be a part of the very first film. Yes, it's a lot of pressure, but she [and I'm presuming, her family] willingly signed on for that pressure. It's like playing a ball game for 5 innings, then switching up the rules for the 6th and 7th innings -- you're not going to make anyone [fans, other players, coaches, etc.] happy. I agree with earlier posters as well... she will probably always be "that girl" no matter what. Like Christopher Reeve was always Superman and Jaleel White will always be Steve Urkel and so on and so on. So if that's her main reason for hesitating or not signing on to do the last two films, it's a pretty flimsy one IMHO.

It would be extremely jarring to have a new Hermione at this point. She's stuck it out this long, and it's not as if it hasn't rewarded her financially. As far as I know, there haven't even been any attempts on her part to take on some other roles like Daniel has with his very un-Harry-like play.
