Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi to Get De Married

Ellen DeGeneres and her longtime girlfriend, actress Portia de Rossi, plan to get married, according to the AP.

The talk-show host made the announcement during a taping of her show Thursday, at which De Rossi was in the audience. Ellen's audience cheered the couple's happy news, which comes right on the heels of the California Supreme Court's ruling in favor of same-sex marriage.

Assuming the voters don't amend California's constitution and the ruling stands, I'm looking forward to future knock-down drag-out divorce lawsuits and the details of the pre-marital agreements.

You people think Alec Baldwin's and Charlie Sheen's divorces were messy, just wait.

And talk about future secret marriages. Janet Jackson somehow managed to get married in secret twice. Can you just imagine how many closeted stars are going to be tying the knot in California's hick towns, with just the judge (or clerk) and a couple witnesses sworn to secrecy over the next few years? Or imagine TMZ interns canvassing county clerks, after first trying to figure out whether a particular celebrity has a different legal name and whether the locals would recognize said closeted celebrity in the first place.

Can't wait.

I remember Brad and Angelina saying they'll get married when gay marriage is legalized. Are they gonna have to make good on their word now?

Welcome to the 21st century, California!

Yours truly,

Massachusetts

Sorry for the copycat, TVGord. Remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ;)

PS: Note to the same-sex couples about to get married in CA: If you get married, stay living in CA. The folks who got married here in in MA a few years ago and subsequently moved to RI (or any other state) and have decided to split up, are having a hard time getting a divorce now.

And congrats to Ellen and Portia! :)

It's all good, RachelScribbles! I feel a special kinship to Massachusetts, because my all-time favorite TV show is set there (St. Elsewhere). ;) And the Bee Gees never sang a song about Canada...:(

Some of us still live in areas in the dark ages, unfortunately. Good for CA and MA and Ellen and Portia. Hooray for love!

sistagirl, I think Brad and Angelina were talking about the whole country not any one particular state, because I think its legal in some other liberal states.

And we're not all gay, either! It's not just a gay issue. It's a human issue, in my opinion.

And, TVGord, "Oh Canada" isn't a Bee Gees hit? Hmmm, who knew!

They would never risk singing it, out of fear that they might be struck in the noggin by a stray puck! ;)
