Dr. Phil Scraps Spears Show, Citing "Intense" Situation
Dr. Phil abruptly brought his bandwagon ride to an end on Monday, announcing that the Britney Spears-centric episode of his talk show that he planned to tape today and air Tuesday has been scrapped. "We had planned to tape a Dr. Phil Now show... focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case," the TV personality explains on his website. "Because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision not to move forward with the taping at this particular time."
Assorted media outlets are reporting that Dr. Phil is more likely bowing to public pressure and the condemnation he's been hit with for seemingly preying on Spears. The wavering participation of Brit's folks, Lynne and Jamie, also may have played a role in the special's dissipation.
"Britney and her family are in our prayers," he says in his statement, "and we ask that they be in yours."

I love how Dr. Phil is spinning this as if he abandoned it because it's such an intense situation. Did he not know this before? As Karen Walker once said "What is he, headless?"
He's given his opinion about Britney on Larry King numerous times. He only backed off because the vast majority of people found his involvemnet was completely tasteless.

Good for you, Dr. Phil!!! I would do the same thing if I were in your shoes. In the beginning I felt sorry for Britney Spears, but now she is just pure trash. I felt sorry for her because what her EX (God, I hate that man)was seeking to do--having full custody of her kids. I now believe those kids need to be put in foster homes or even adopted by a couple who can raise these kids normally. Britney's relatives and parents are just as unfit as she is as well as her EX and his family. Grow up, Ms. Spears, and start acting responsibly. Set an example by being a role model for young moms could still have a career and a family. Too bad your sister is practically following in your footsteps. She needs desperate help, too.

I respect Dr Phil for not capitalizing on Britney Spears situation. Speaking as a former nutcase, Docs tried to call me borderline and everything in between but it was intense depression and ptsd (I have had postpartum and with each child it has been worse plus I fought depression since 14, but no more hospitals-just responsible proactive living). Further, I met a true person while hospitalized with the diagnosis they are saying Britney has. let me tell you, when you meet the real deal, it is frightening and even more odd how much they can change on the right meds. they go from yikes, to the most sane, caring people you ever met. I pray Britney gets the help she needs because she does not have to throw her life away. I have had 15 years more of intermittant depression but not being a nutjob needing hospitalization. I got a college degree and have a great husband and ALL my kids with me.

I'm surprised there are still Shmoctor Phil supporters out there. Britney's a train wreck but he's clearly just in it for the publicity.

... focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case," - yeah, right....how do you separate the two??? The only reason he's not going ahead with the program is that in the long-run it will hurt him in the wallet.

OMG!!!!!!I am so over this chick. It's like a train wreck, you just can't help but look. I know this is going to sound strange, but thank god KFed got custody. Let's see how long he lasts before he has someone else pregnant and cheating on them. Those poor kids.
Don't even get me started on the parents. Clearly they did somethng wrong. Is the son out of trouble or is he just as messed up as the rest of the family?

Dr Phil is proving himself to be a lying, phony blow hard who cares about nothing but his ratings. I love how now he is just so concerned and the situation is too intense. Uh, he wasn't aware of this before. The backlash about his interference in Britney's life gives me a little hope that people are not so easily fooled as Dr Phil thought. He is just another Jerry Springer except Jerry is more honest about his motives. Dr Phil and Robin......go away forever, please. You add nothing to society.

I'd like to put Dr. Phil aside for a moment. The tragedy in this girl's life is the apparent abandonment by her parents. Regardless of her income, celebrity, etc., didn't her parents feel any responsibility to jerk her straight when this whole meltdown started? And I don't mean just 2007. I am so lucky that my Mom and Dad care enough about me to squash any self-absorbed, inconsiderate, irresponsible behavior before it goes too far. Are Britney's parents in it just for the money? And what are they doing for her sister? What kind of expectations and standards did they set for their daughters? I don't even know about the son--can't be good. If Dr. Phil is exploiting the situation, well, so is everyone else!

Dr. Phil is doing this in respect of Britney. He's not doing it because his actions were qestionible, press release was false, father dropped out of show, Britney rejecting him, Satan saying "Hey, buddy even I think you are going to far,", or people outside his house with pitchforks. He did because Dr. Phil is good people........or Oprah yelled at him.

Phil is an opportunist. He went to squeeze any drip of this story he could for his ratings and then people were pissed about how unprofessional and inappropriate his actions were. So he spins the story to make it sound like he is backing down. No, the public has just had enough of his bull crap!
