Donald Sutherland: "Jail Was Tough" for Kiefer

Well... yeah!

In an interview with BBC Radio, actor Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money) talked about his son Kiefer's recent prison stay. "Jail was tough for him. He had 48 days inside, 23 hours a day in solitary. It was very, very cold," he told BBC's Newsbeat. "There were no windows. He had no community. I also made a deposit at the prison so he could call out. We were given 14 minutes for every call," the proud papa said of the 24 star's incarceration.

Kiefer Sutherland was arrested on Sept. 25 for DUI and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor drunk-driving charge. This was his fourth DUI arrest. He was sentenced to 30 days for the DUI charge and 18 days for violating his probation stemming from an earlier DUI charge.

The elder Sutherland believes his son has learned his lesson, and remains optimistic about his hit TV series: "[Now] that he's out, he said that the next two seasons of 24 will be the best two years of television in the United States." Fox will air a two-hour TV-movie that bridges the events of Seasons 6 and 7, the latter of which takes place in Washington, D.C., and is scheduled to air beginning in January 2009.

What do you think? Has prison changed Kiefer? And will it change Jack Bauer? How would you like to see the TV-movie and new season of 24 play out? — Mickey O'Connor

No kidding! I don't like to drive after even 1 drink because if you got in an accident that wasn't even your fault ~ It would be your fault. And I could not afford for that to happen ~ Nevermind the fact that I could not live with myself if I ever caused harm to someone else.

I just don't get it. Maybe I have just not ever been drunk enough to impair my judgement that badly!

He's lucky cause most people with four DUI's do more jail time!. And these rich people can easily higher a car service to drive them around.

Gee, Kiefer, sorry it was a little chilly during your incarceration...BUT AT LEAST YOUR STILL ALIVE!!! Good God, 4 DUIs, and the odds have still not caught up with you yet? If you can't take that as a sign from the Universe, well please let me know when you plan on motoring around so I can make sure I'm in another state. Thank you.

The next two seasons of 24 will be the best two years of television in the United States.

It sounds like they have the whole plot figured out! And they might have a movie at the end of the series (appearantly the script is finished according to imdb).

Yep, the first two DUIs happened over 15 years ago. He seems to be behaving himself since his release from jail, so hopefully, he's really learned his lesson this time.

Kiefer's not a dumb boy, he knows drinking & driving is wrong, and will be the first to admit that he screwed up royally. He's a smart guy, unfortunately, when he's drunk he doesn't think straight and ends up doing stupid things sometimes. He needs to stay away from the bottle or learn plan things in advance when he's sober and not get into these situations again

At least Kiefer admitted his guilt and served his time without all the blubbering as some other celebs have done. I thought it was very adult of him to do so. Yes, he has had a few dwi in the past years. And yes, he should have called a cab or someone else. But, he did wrong, got caught and busted, went to court, plead guilty, and did his time. Bravo Kiefer! You are a man at least. Hope you don't do this again. Hope he has truly learned a lesson this time around.

Let's not make excuses. It doesn't matter if his last DUI was 15 minutes ago, or 15 years ago as indicated. The only reason anybody is praising him for 'accepting responsibility' is because he didn't kill anyone. Alcohol impairment is NOT an excuse for poor judgement. I'm sure the drunk driver that KILLED my twin brother had the same logic as Keifer when he got behind the wheel. I hope Keifer's license is revoked, in addition to the jail time.

Kiefer has had a tough battle with alcoholism. Trust me 48 days in Jail is a long time to think. THough I am sure he is a convicted felon , it does not limit him to being able to work , which is a part of recovery and becoming a part of society again. He is fortunate to be a celebrity, because I know people with less DUI's than him, and they are convicted felons and can no longer get back into society because society won't let them. I know, I am one of them. So God Bless you Kiefer, 24 is one of my favorite shows, just take care of yourself, and I am happy you have such a loving father. I do too.

How could anyone know if the prison time changed him? Only he can answer that question. He faced his punishment, now lets move on.
