Following the lead of some other major studios, Disney has detailed a retooled release lineup for 2009 and beyond, during which it plans to pit some of its flicks against those whose release dates have already been announced.

Among its major moves, the Mouse House on May 1, 2009, will pit teen phenom Miley Cyrus' Miley Cyrus' The Hannah Montana Movie against Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The studio will then unspool Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (originally slated for July 10) on June 16, barely dodging a face-off against Transformers 2 (out June 26).

Disney also reshuffled its Valentine's Day '09 releases, crowning Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy's Confessions of a Shopaholic its big film for the lovey-dovey. In turn, it bumped Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds' The Proposal to a much more marriage-themed month: September.

I think it's pretty smart releasing Hannah Montana and X-Men at the same time. Parents can let the kids watch Hannah while they enjoy some Wolverine! I know that would be my plan if my kids wanted to see Hannah, which luckily for me they do not (yet)! :)

Disney is either the absolute master of counter-programming or they're out of their minds...

...I guess we'll find out in about 15 months or so.
