Did Chuck & Larry Snap Harry Potter's Spell?

The weekend box office title may, just may, be up for grabs. Despite awful, awful reviews, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry opened with an estimated $34.8 million, versus $32.2 mil for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was anchored down a bit by a certain book's release. Final figures to be released Monday will confirm this week's crown. Either way, the box office was up 3.5 percent compared to a year ago.

Rounding out the top five were Hairspray (debuting to $27.8 million, two-thirds of which came from female filmgoers), Transformers ($20.5 mil) and Ratatouille ($11 mil), which I still can't convince my kids to see. #*$@ing Cars loyalists!

How many more bad Adam Sandler movies that we have to survive through for him to actually get it? We don't want Rob Schneider appearing in anymore of them.

wycked: Get what? Obviously by the numbers: we do (no pun). Sandler's humor, (and Rob Schnieder too) appeal to a certain 20-40 year old sense of humor. A sense of humor that reminds them of the 1990's heyday of SNL.
I haven't seen Chuck and Larry yet, and it may not be the greatest film, but I'm sure it's probably pretty funny.

There wasn't a lot to choose from this weekend. And most HP fans had their noses in books........

Gigli was a funny film, this was just a mistake.

Did Gigli make $34.8 mil in its entire run?

We Harry Potter fans took a weekend off so we could read the book (with brief intervals for naps). After all, many, if not most, of us have already seen the movie once.

And Matt, tell your kids you want to see Ratatouille and you have to be accompanied by children to get in. That's what my then-single brother did when my son was little and it worked like a charm.

Matt, Ratatouille is so good. You need to go see it, with or without your kids.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry? $34.8 million?!?

I understand that Sandler's humor appeals to a certain 20-40 IQ -- er, I mean 20-40 year-old sense of humor, but this thing looked so bad, I didn't think even the usual Sandler toadies would go see it.

Note to self: Never overestimate the standards of Adam Sandler fans.

So, all you people who actually saw it, was it worth $10?
