Officials Lay Down Law on Dennis Farina Gun Incident

Law & Order alum Dennis Farina has been charged with illegal gun possession at Los Angeles International Airport.

Farina was caught with a .22 caliber gun in his carry-on luggage in May, and on Wednesday was charged with three misdemeanor counts that carry a combined max sentence of two and half years in jail and a $3,000 fine.

At the time of his arrest, Farina made a public apology and told authorities that he'd forgotten that the gun was in his bags. Whoops! Should the Law come down on Farina? Or should he be spared punishment for an honest mistake? — Anna Dimond

I have admired Dennis Farina for so long now that I really believe he was very sincere when he apologized for carrying a gun on a boarded airplane.

I don't think he deserves any rash punishment except pay the amount of the fine. If he has to be punished, then maybe he can be put on probation for not flying anywhere for the next two to three years.

I don't think Mr. Farina meant any harm when he carried the gun on the plane with him, even though he completely forgot packing it.

The main thing is--at least he was honest about the situation while there are others who would say "That is not my gun" or "I don't own a gun" or "I don't know how that gun got into my suitcase."

My prayers are with you, Mr. Farina. I hope to see you on TV again soon. I loved your comedy years ago with Jean Smart playing parents and living with their daughter and son-in-law. Does anyone remember the name of this sitcom? It was funny TV, especially the scene in the steam room or the sauna.

I think he should get the same punishment that I would get if I went to the airport with a gun and did not have a permit to carry it.

He definitely shouldn't receive special treatment for being a celebrity. And more importantly, he clearly isn't responsible enough to own a gun if he can't remember where his firearm is at all times.

In Seattle the gun would have been stolen from his luggage and there'd be no article written. Keep all your belongings with you at SeaTac.X-(...If his gun was registered and legal he could just pay a fine I guess. It's pretty dumb not to know where a weapon is, I admit.

Bring the law down on him! How do you NOT know you have a gun in your bag? Did you not even open your bag? Kept the same clothes in there without washing. That's Bull!

I have to agree with the last poster. If you have to check your carry-on bags for liquids before going through security, how can you possibly miss a gun? I like the 3 year no-fly punishment. For a guy in his industry, that probably hurts more than minimum security prison.

Wasn't he a policeman before he went into acting? You would think someone like that would be especially attuned to the law.

Security plays this up to make it appear they are doing their job.
They cannot catch the real criminals sneaking things in. I see they caught Jerry Lewis as well for the same thing.
I have to believe it was an honest mistake.
