Duchovny Enters Rehab for Sex Addiction Just as Series' Ad Campaign Breaks
David Duchovny has voluntarily entered a treatment facility to deal with sex addiction. The star of Californication (which now, sadly, carries a whole different connotation) told People that he requests "respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation."
This situation comes on the heels of a less-than-extraordinary performance for Duchovny's summer movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Californication, for which Duchovny won a Golden Globe, is set to premiere its second season on Sept. 28. Ironically, a brand-new promotional campaign hitting (among other places) the New York City subway system proclaims his sexually promiscuous alter ego to be "In Way Too Deep." (See photo here.) A Showtime rep tells TVGuide.com, "We're not altering our second season promo plans — and that includes the subway ads."
Duchovny is married to actress Tea Leoni, with whom he has two children, 9-year-old West and 6-year-old Kyd.

I was left speechless when he got married. David Duchovny (who I absolutely LOVE) used to go through women like most people go through socks. He used to do interviews about how he and Tea would have sex for hours at a time or over the phone when "X-Files" was still in Vancouver. I say good luck to him as he is obviously trying to save his family.
So he's asking "for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family." I'm sorry. But I hope that his children are not helping him deal with a sexual addiction. It just seems like a weird statement to make.
Am I a terrible person for wondering if it's a total publicity stunt for his show? I mean, if he has a problem for real, then good for him for getting treatment, but there's part of me that wonders. It's an evil part, isn't it.
so what really constitutes "sex addiction"? most of us like having sex, the more, the better. When does sex become an addiction like alcohol or drugs? when someone gets caught cheating?
I am stunned and I wish only the best for the whole family. It is so easy to sit back and make jokes or pass judgement. I have no idea what he or has not done. But I don't see how his addiction as being any different from the many different addictions that stars have seek treatment for. It just seems like because it involves the word sex people react in a different manner.
I am so fed up with how every actor or singer in Creation is checking himself, or herself, into rehab for one kind of addiction or another. Why do so many entertainers screw up their lives and careers with drugs, sex, etc.? I never understood that. But it has become so ridiculous, you can set your watch by these press releases.
I guess Mackenzie Phillips will be next (drugs are apparently still her vice of choice)
And yet somehow Duchovny being treated for sex addiction doesn't shock me. If it's because he now cheats on Tea every chance he gets, he's truly crazy. She's drop-dead gorgeous.
Makes me wonder if the sex scenes in "Californication" had something to do with it. Perhaps they became a little too real? I thought he was great in "The X-Files", but as far as this news is concerned, I've just realized that I don't really care.
Since his bizarre sex issues have been an open secret for 14 years, I have to agree with the two guesses that he was caught cheating and is trying to use it to gain publicity for Californication. It's also possible that he got caught doing something sexually inappropriate or dangerous by one of his kids. Whichever, I'm guessing he kids will at least know that he is going away for "medical reasons," so he is probably asking reporters to not chase his family down asking for comments or details.
