David Duchovny Engages in Californication

Showtime now has a title for its new comedy series starring David Duchovny and debuting in August. Californication, which starts lensing in June and costars Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show), Madeleine Martin (Hope & Faith), Madeline Zima (The Nanny) and Evan Handler (Sex and the City), concerns Hank Moody, a novelist struggling to raise his 13-year-old daughter (Martin) while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend (McElhone). Says Showtime's press release, "[Hank's] obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior — drinks, drugs and relationships — are both destroying and enriching his career."

That's a great title -- although the Red Hot Chili Peppers beat them to it.

I'm pretty sure this was originally the title and they temporarily dropped it before evidently deciding to use it again.

Stupid name. And stupid premise. Why is it that every new show either involves obsession, drugs, alcohol, and single parents. How many of these have we seen that look just like each other? They all think they're edgy and smart but usually they just turn out to be the same as everything else. How about a strange little comedy on a Pay network about a family that seems normal on the outside but is not so much on the inside? How about The Addams Family 2007?

Did you not see Six Feet Under?

How about The Addams Family 2007? - bubbarider666

You may have meant that figuratively, but if you meant it literally, The New Addams Family ran for 65 episodes on The Family Channel about 9 years ago. It was actually a pretty good updating of the old series.

This new Duchovny show actually sounds good to me, but unfortunately I don't have Showtime.

I saw a trailer for this show on Showtime last week and wasn't impressed. I love DD so I'll check out the first ep but it looks like another cable show that is throwing as much sex and bare breasts on screen as possible to get people to watch and ignore the fact that there's not much else going on.

Yea, another one of these Yuppie shows; how we are really supposed to care about the daily lives of these spoiled people and how hard they try to be miserable with more than enough money to make most of us pretty happy.
What's even worse about these shows is that too many people actually get sucked into thinking that they have something in common with these spoiled brats and how they live their lives.
And that Natasha Mcelhoune or whatever; they have to be kidding. First of all she's way to tall for David, and just not all that attractive or interesting. I think they should give more opportunities to attractive average sized women instead of classifying every six foot women as "beautiful" and selling it to us. I'm telling you when one of these "giants" has a couple of drinks and starts leaning on you and sitting on your lap and stuff--I just hope David doesn't have a bad back.
