CSI: Who Should Replace Grissom?

At Friday's executive session, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, announced a new character on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Tassler's description of the character, who will replace the departing William Petersen, was interesting, to say the least. He's a doctor and scientist who comes into the CSI as an outsider; he won't start off as the boss. Here's the catch: He's a bit of a DNA expert, and has identified a common profile among serial killers — in his own genes! Sounds a little Dexter-y, no?

So, who do you think should play Dr. McSerialKiller? Tassler suggested they'd be looking for an actor of some stature to fill the role. My first thoughts: Oscar nominees Laurence Fishburne and David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), both of whom can convey steely resolve and menace with equal skill. — Mickey O'Connor

Two words:

John.
Malkovitch.

The guy's known for playing interesting and quirky characters - I can see him in the Las Vegas crime lab!

David Stratharin does sound good as a replacement.

So does Michael Keaton.

I'll add in Kevin Klein who, like Keaton, can do anything.

Liev Schrieber!!!!

Actually, I really like the David Strathairn idea; I've been a fan of his for years and would like to see him acknowledged by a larger audience.

I love David Strathairn and anything
he's in. He's an incredible actor. I haven't watched CSI much, but I sure
would if David Strathairn was on it.

CPav1130,
Do you want Liev Schreiber to be on CSI as a cliche ghost or as a cliche long-lost twin brother of Michael Keppler? ;)

But seriously folks...
I really like the Laurence Fishburne idea.

My vote goes to David Strathairn who is one of the most underrated actors out there. I did not think this guy was capable of being a great actor in the past, but after seeing him in The River Wild with Meryl Streep, this guy can act and he does it with such ease. He certainly has a certain amount of comfortness, calmness, and assertiveness tone just like William Petersen, meaning I think he will bring a nice element to CSI that just may be missing when Petersen leaves. If you are offered the job Mr. Strathairn, please do not turn it down. I will certainly continue to watch this show if your involved in it. Good Night, and Good Luck, Mr. Strathairn!!!

Andre Braugher

I love him and can't take my eyes away from the screen when he is on it.

Andre is already busy these days as one of the Men of a Certain Age. But it was a good thought.

I also like schpoopty's idea of Alex O'Loughlin. But he might not be old enough to look like he has the experience and cred that a CSI supervisor should have. I would love to be wrong though. :)

You guys have some great suggestions, but I'm a LONG TIME David Straithairn from waaaaaay back. Back to THE DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MOLLY DODD from 1987 where he played a nerdy, frightened bookstore clerk or owner opposite Blair Brown. He was fantastic and I've tried to watch him in everything else since then.

Bring him on CSI. It's the shot in the arm this series needs.
