« Today's News: Our Take
Two CBS Shows to Get the Pop-up Treatment
Ghost Whisperer by Monty Brinton/ABC and CSI: Miami by Ron Jaffe/CBS
Perhaps taking a cue from Lost's Season 3 recap, CBS announced that the next two episodes of Ghost Whisperer and CSI: Miami will feature pop-up fun facts.
For the episodes of Ghost Whisperer (airing tomorrow and Feb. 22), the pop-ups will take the form of "love notes" that detail everything from what clothing line Melinda is wearing to info on classic movies filmed on the sets regularly used by the show. CSI: Miami (airing Feb. 18 and 25) will deliver its info in "bullet points" that offer behind-the-scenes details about the series and the actors.
This development just begs the question — when is VH1 bringing back Pop Up Video? — Adam Bryant

Ugh, when they did that during the Lost episode, I was this close to putting duct tape at the bottom of the TV.

I hate pop-ups! They're just annoying. They look like something important you should read but they're not and you miss the part of the show because you're busy reading. If I wanted to read, I wouldn't have the remote in my hand I'd have a book.

What'll CSI:Miami's bullet points be? Count the number of seconds in Caruso's pregnant pauses? A sunglass removal counter? Maybe a counter for the number of times he makes promises that he might not be able to keep (But will, because he is ... ... ... Horatio! YEAAAAAAHHHH!!!).

Hey anything that distracts you from the insipid dialogue and plot contrivances on CSI Miami can't be a bad thing.

I LOVED pop-up video. I used to have it on most evenings when my eleven year old was two. Didn't necessary watch it closely every night, but LOVED it. Especially miss it during the holidays, (cried everytime Burgess Merideth ran the film). So yes! Let's bring it back! Otherwise, enjoyed the Lost one, since it was already an episode I had seen, nice to know the Easter Eggs. Enjoy GW, but couldn't care less what "line" she is wearing, am hoping other stuff is enjoyable, and don't care about CSI NY.

Boo! Hiss! Pop ups are the bane of my television viewing experience, especially those used to advertise some inane cr@p coming on in 20 minutes.

I hope Lost didn't start another trend. Those pop-ups were incredibly annoying. They take up far too much screen space and provide very little if any value.

That would certainly increase ratings, but wouldn't make the FCC to happy.

wildbill, I doubt ANYTHING makes the FCC happy--well, anything polite society could discuss.

We loved the GW...
but NO MORE...we refuse to watch the show until we can see the SHOW, not the gossip tripe crap that we avoid by turning off Jerry Springer, ET, Hollywood Gossip etc etc ad nauseum
Too distracting, ruins the show
we have left the building...we'll check back in a month or so to see if the crap is still "love noting"
As for CSI:Miami...the popups just add a little more "syrup of ipecac" effect to Caruso's acting!
(Wikipedia: Syrup of ipecac (derived from the dried rhizome and roots of the Ipecacuanha plant), is an emetic—a substance used to induce vomiting.)
