Criminal Minds, Mandy Patinkin Confirm Parting of Ways
Mandy Patinkin by Nigel Parry/WireImage.com
As first teased in Michael Ausiello's TCA press tour diary, CBS and Criminal Minds lead Mandy Patinkin have agreed to disagree and thus part ways effective immediately, meaning that fans of the hit crime drama have seen the last of Jason Gideon.
"Mandy Patinkin asked to be released from his role on Criminal Minds. We have honored this request, which was not in any way connected to contract renegotiations or salary issues," says a statement from CBS Paramount Network Television and ABC Studios (which produces Minds). "His departure... will be explained to audiences in an episode to be filmed in the near future and broadcast early next season. We thank Mandy for helping to make Criminal Minds a strong and successful series, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. A new character will be added to the series for next season."
A statement issued on behalf of Patinkin, in turn, reads: "Due to creative differences, Mandy has asked not to return to Criminal Minds this season. Mandy would like to thank the studios and network for releasing him from the series and he wishes the cast and crew continued success in all of their endeavors and looks forward to continuing to work with the Disney and CBS companies in other capacities in the future."
Not nearly as juicy as the blog from exec producer Ed Bernero posted over the weekend, but few things are.

I totally agree with Ranger99 - they're actors for heavens sake hired to do a job - imagine if we acted like this in our jobs! anyway Reid totally rocks on this show

You know, I loved this show and part of it was based on MP's character. I do, however, think they have a strong enough cast to keep it going. Especially with the right replacement. Personally, some of my suggestions would be Craig T. Nelson, Sean Patrick Thomas, Jean Smart, some of the characters I really miss from "The District". I also think Jill Hennessey, Miguel Ferrer and Ravi Kapoor could make a great addition to that cast.

Vincent D'Onofrio would be a good replacement

I'm sorry but "Creative Differences" is such a cliched excuse. Mr. Patinkin is not an Executive Producer/Writer on the show. He's an actor and is paid to work with the material that is given to him.

He was only on Chicago Hope for about 2 seasons, correct? The man seems to have a very short attention span. I'll continue to tune in because the rest of the cast is very solid and it feels more like an ensemble show. I know better than to tune into a series for MP only. He never lasts long.

MP is a very talented guy (he gets a forever pass from me because of "The Princess Bride"), but man, it sounds like he is a difficult dude to work with.

Love him!!! On the plus side, now he hopefully, will go back to giving concerts so we can hear his glorious singing voice in person again!

One of the best written crime procedural dramas on TV, with a great cast (Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness and Paget Brewster. Though frankly A.J. Cook is a little too Vanilla Whitebread for me.) I think the show will survive, but it may shake loose a few viewers. And with this chip in the Wednesday at Nine logjam of CM, Bones and Lost, the big beneficiary in all this could be The Bionic Woman. No need to delve into the tabloidish "who didn't like who and who had legal problems" gossip for now. If the show's producers were actually skimming this site for replacement suggestions, Chris.C over at the Jump the Shark Yahoo Group likes Stanley Tucci or Gena Rowlands, while I'd love to see Kathleen Turner offered the part. China Blue as an FBI profiler? I'd watch that.

Who cares? Patinkin is one of the most annoying actors on TV. How he ever gets jobs is beyond me.
Maybe he can revive that stupid falsetto he used to drag out on Chicago Hope and be a contestant on American Idol.

Creative differences, my sweet a.... It sure doesn't explain why he let everybody hang for a week with no comment. Grown-ups let somebody know when they're quitting their job.
Don't let the door hit you, Mandy!

How about I will start watching it now that he is gone? Watched it once while he was on and I hated it. Now that the primadonna is gone, it might be good. (Just because he was in Princess Bride dosn't give him a pass in my book).
