Creator of Scrubs Snubs Season-finale Request

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence was is a unique position as the strike neared in that his show was on its way off the air. Even so, he said Sunday at a New York Comedy Festival event that he refused a request from NBC to slap together a script that would serve as a series ender. Describing the finale the network suggested as full of scenes where "two people kiss," Lawrence (who has one of 12 pre-strike scripts left to shoot) instead hopes to wait out the strike and then craft his own denouement — by any means possible. "I will use all my leverage to end this show properly, even if it means I have to do all the voices myself and call people up to read it over the phone," he said.

As a fan from Day 1 of Scrubs - I am so glad to hear Bill Lawrence stand firm on this. And if it comes to it, I wouldn't mind getting one of those calls with him reading it over the phone. I'm looking forward to a real ending - even if that means JD and Elliot get together (please don't have them end up together though!)

I'm also really glad to hear that Bill Lawrence will end the series in his own time. It would be a real disappointment to have the show abruptly ended simply to appease NBC.

I fully support the writers' strike but also look forward to a true "Scrubs" finale delivered by the creator.

I'm so glad to see this, I applaud Bill Lawrence for standing firm on this. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes to see a proper end to Scrubs.

It's amazing to me that this year, when the show is ending and it will have the hardest time getting new viewers (people rarely want to invest in a show that's ending), NBC is finally starting to promote the show. And the fact that the suits want a finale full of scenes where "two people kiss" shows how little they've been paying attention to it over the last six years. It's the kind of ending that Lawrence, to his credit, would never do. As to whether JD ends up with Elliot, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other as long as it works.

If only to let this show have the ending it deserves, can we PLEASE get both sides in front of a mediator who can resolve this? Or at least get them back to the bargaining table? There's got to be some middle ground here.

Thank you, Bill Lawrence! (Insert big sigh of relief here.) Scrubs is one of our favorite shows here and I'd hate to see it end badly.

To echo Howstone, please get back to the table, people! That means you, corporate suits!X-(

i hope jd and elliot end up together but not like the friends finale with ross and rachel, but hopefully a couple of episode before the finale, build up to it & give us some happy together moments, not 5 minutes to the very end.

I ♥ Bill Lawrence. I don't want to end up with a cheesy, slapped-together show finale, and I hope that we're able to get an entire season, not just 13 or so episodes. But even if that's what we get, I have faith that they'll be awesome.

I hope more show runners follow his example and refuse to let the strike affect their creative decisions.
