Comic-Con 2008: Attention, Supernatural Fans!

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles in Supernatural by Sergei Bachlakov/The CW
This sounds like it's significant and that in reporting it, I might save a few folks from a date with a curtain rod and belt. So here goes.

My pal at Warner Bros. wants all of the Winchester-loving Comic-Con attendees to know that although the Supernatural panel will still be held on Sunday, July 27 (from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm in Room 6CDEF), Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki will actually be doing their autograph signing on Saturday the 26th, from 5 to 6 pm in the Warner Bros. booth on the main convention floor.

And just like that, I save countless nearly-trampled lives and much heartbreak. — Matt Mitovich

No, no, no, Matt.
You've actually caused the deaths of countless lives, since they'll all be headed to the Warner Booth. Not to call just Warner out or anything -- NONE of the studios or publishers at Comic-Con care that doing signings in the dealers' room/exhibit hall causes traffic jams so immense that they make the areas around the booths virtually impossible to navigate. And it's a safety hazard for younger kids and smaller adults.

The networks and studios need to put ALL of their signings up in the designated -- and huge -- autograph section at "The Sails" on the second floor.

It's a wonder you don't get the Nobel Peace prize.

It's a wonder you don't get the Nobel Peace prize.

You don't get a Nobel Peace Prize for causing a stampede and riot in the middle of the Comic-Con dealer's room.

I'm not kidding. Saturdays at Comic-Con are absolutely insane. Most crowded day due to the overdose of show panels and stars *and* the Masquerade Ball that night means there are too many Stormtroopers and Klingons roaming the floor.

Seriously, it's not something to joke about. Additional signings in the dealers' room are serious safety hazards.

Not even getting the information about where and when the signing is going to be beforehand makes it any less of a safety hazard -- IMNSHO, it makes the situation worse.

Rob's right about the crowds, but what really causes the chaos is that no one tells people that you have to have a ticket to be in the autograph line! So, everyone's hopeful that there might still be time and hang around the booth.

Matt, do you have any advice about how I can get my hands on one of these Supernatural autograph tickets?

Ticketed signings are the exception, not the rule at Comic-Con. And even if the Supernatural signing is ticketed, that's NOT going to cut the crowd down any. There'll still be dozens (if not 100 or more) gawkers surrounding the booth trying to get a peek or cell-phone photo, etc.

Whatever way Warner (or any other studio) runs their signing, the mere fact that it's in the dealers' room is inherently a disastrous situation for the dealers' room.

Does anyone else thing shutuprob has an issue with this? :)

Forget issue. I have a whole subscription with this. ]<img border=">

But that's okay, I'm know that I'm far from the only one. I've been stuck in too many traffic jams on the dealers' room floor and spoken to many other people stuck in them (and overheard a number of others). It's far more of a problem with con-goers than the studios, networks and con give us attendees credit for.

PS: Dr. Who and Torchwood panels on Thursday 12-2pm and Dexter panel on Thursday night.

So I'm assuming this'll be a signing where we have to show up at the Warner Bros. booth first thing when the hall doors open Saturday Morning right?

I mean, that's the same thing I had to deal with for the Darren Bousman/Tobin Bell Saw Iv signing at the LIONSGATE booth last year.

I am right or are tickest being distributed some other way. My friend is a HUGE Supernatural fan and wants me to get her an autograph since she can't show; help would be most appreciated.
