Cloverfield Director Promises Monster-size Payoff... But No Grunny

Looking for clues about Cloverfield, Lost executive producer J.J. Abrams' latest hush-hush project, which hits theaters Jan. 18? You're not alone. TV Guide spoke with director Matt Reeves — who collaborated with childhood buddy Abrams on TV's Felicity — and he coughed up a few details about the movie. For one, unlike Lost, the film will present a clear look at its creature. "It pays off. At the end of the day, you see everything," Reeves promises of the New York City-smashing beast. "It's a new monster, and it's enormous."

Audiences should also be on the lookout for an in-joke reference to Slusho, a drink first referred to on Abrams' Alias. But perhaps the biggest twist is the decision to use all relative unknowns in the cast (including CSI newbie Jessica Lucas), which ruled out a rumored cameo by Heroes' Greg Grunberg, who has appeared in many of longtime pal Abrams' previous projects. "I wish I could tell you that Greg was in the movie, but unfortunately, he's not," Reeves says. "We thought people would be too familiar with him." Guess everybody doesn't need a hero. — Shawna Malcom

No Grunberg? No problem. We can always watch the pilot of LOST to see a monster eat him. :)

I like GG!
It's nice to see a character on TV that's NOT a The Biggest Loser winner!

I can't wait!!!

I hope it's good, seems the movies I've gone to lately have not lived up to my expectation.

That would be Golden Compass, and The Mist (which rocked until the last 5 minutes).

Also, another ALIAS ref is in the Cloverfield trailer - the use of the number 447 in the opening caption, taken from the number 47 which played a significant part in Alias's Rambaldi mystery/mythology, and with which Abrams has a continuing fixation........ could the monster be of Rambaldi origin? Spooky.

I can't wait to see this! While the promise of a payoff is helpful, I'm still a little weary. But, JJ has never disappointed me.
And I refuse to have this spoiled, so unlike most movies I go see, this will be an open weekend event for me!!
