Idol: The Musical — A Musical Based on the Worship of Clay Aiken lasted about as long as Brandon Rogers. Mere hours after its Aug. 12 premiere, the off-Broadway show shut its doors "due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics, and a lack of sustainable financial resources," explains a statement from producer Todd Ellis.

Apparently the fans of Clay Aiken refused to come out.

Apparently the fans of Clay Aiken refused to come out.

They do tend to follow in their leader's footsteps...

Careful Matt. Your'e setting yourself up for a verbal smackdown from the Claymate contingent who think it is there destiny to defend Clay from any and all evildoers like it was Buffy's destiny to destroy vampires.

That said, this is just shocking! I mean this had smash hit and Tony Awards written all over it!

Oh yeah, and lest anyone think I was serious with that last part...:-p

Any dope who was stupid enough to invest their money in this has way too much money.

It's unanimous -- that's hysterical!

"...a lack of positive feedback from audience members..."

Apparently, they've all ridden on a plane with him.

It is amazing what investors will spend their money on. Why would anyone want to do a musical about someone with stinky feet and no manners?

It is not like he sold millions of records, could act sing and perfom like oh say, Peter Allen. Now there was a Broadway show (starring Hugh Jackman) to write home about.

What the hell were these investors thinking?

This was as bad a decision as HBO yanking Deadwood for David Milch's now cancelled surfer series.
