Christina Applegate spoke out about her boyfriend Lee Grivas' death for the first time Thursday since his unexpected passing July 1.

In a statement, the Samantha Who? star told Extra, "I am profoundly saddened. Lee was an incredible human being who was an extremely important and beautiful part of my life." She continued, "He is missed beyond words. He touched so many and I feel much sadness for his mother, brother and all of his family friends."

Grivas, 26, reportedly had drug abuse issues in the past and a syringe was found on the scene, but the coroner's office refuses to make any preliminary conclusions until a toxicology report is completed. — Anna Dimond

Of course she's profoundly saddened! What else did the vampires at Extra expected her to say? Did they think she was happy? Why does she even have to make an official statement? Jeez. The press needs to learn how to respect people when they are grieving! My condolences to Ms. Applegate.

I feel very bad for Christina and the friends and families involved, it is a loss that no one should have to experience. Being a recovering heroin addict and seeing many friends die, I know one thing and it is that no one can save an addict except themselves. Some people think their love can save the addict but that does not work. Only after detox, long term care, transitional living (halfway house) and follow up counseling and/or NA AA program for life. After five years of living clean and relearning life, maybe then you might have a chance at being in a healthy relationship. I hope everyone involved finds peace knowing that their loved one now has the peace that they could not find in this life. Life is Good. Keep Living It! :-x

My thoughts and prayers are with Christinia and the family.

I only wish there was a law against the media shoving cameras in people's faces and asking obviously stupids questions when human beings are going through the worse time of their lives.

She of course needed to make a statement or the rag press would have hounded her to death. Christina showed her grace and class in what she said. I am sorry for her and the families loss.

I'm sorry, but while I am saddened for Christina's loss and for her boyfriend's family's loss, I don't understand why so much of Hollywood finds it necessary to do drugs. Anyone who does drugs and anyone who dates someone who does drugs should expect an unhappy ending eventually. What is it about the Hollywood lifestyle that people can't handle without having to do drugs??

How ironic. Christina Applegate was there the night River Phoenix died of a drug overdose. When he collapsed outside the club and started having spasms she laid down in the parking lot and began jerking around mocking him. How interesting to see it come back around.

(And I completely agree with you, too! Whether in Hollywood or Podunk, drug users and those who date drug users should be prepared for a sad reality instead of happy ever after.)

She really did that in the parking lot? How did the newshounds let that stay dormant? Or are you with the media? I had sure forgotten if I ever knew it.

Actually Soapie, while Christina was there when River died, she did a tribute to him at an anti-drug dance. She would get roasted for life if she had taken the action you described. Google is your friend.
