Gary Busey, Former Idol Check into Rehab

As previously reported, VH1 is bringing back Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew for a second season of exploiting chronicling the struggles celebs face while detoxing in a treatment facility. But this time around, there's one huge reason to watch: Gary Busey.

Busey, whose wild antics have been well-documented (most recently his crazed behavior on the red carpet at the 2008 Academy Awards), is remarkably not one of the celebs in for treatment. Instead — touting 13 years of sobriety since his cocaine addiction — Busey will be a mentor to the new class of patients which includes Season 1 cast member Jeff Conaway (Grease), Sean Stewart (son of music icon Rod Stewart), model/actress Amber Smith, Rodney King, Guns N' Roses' Steven Adler, Tawny Kitaen and former American Idol wanabe Nikki McKibbin. Here's hoping at least one of his sessions involves teaching the addicts how to yell at teenaged journalists.

The series will follow the patients during a 21-day program featuring group and one-on-one therapy sessions with Dr. Drew Pinsky and his team. VH1 is planning eight, one-hour episodes, which will begin airing this October. Will you be checking into Rehab? What kind of hijinks do you expect from Gary Busey? — Adam Bryant

Wow, I'm not sure Gary Busey is the kind of mentor to give addicts much hope. "So, this is what I have to look forward to??" Yeesh.
I enjoyed the first season all right, and might check out the 2nd one.

Oh, God. I still remember Hal Sparks from Celebrity Paranormal Project, when he said they were in a haunted sanatorium and the scariest thing about it was Gary Busey. They must have needed a scene stealer to replace Baldwin.

Disappointed to hear Jeff is back...I was hoping he'd have gotten clean by now. And has anyone heard what was up with Jessica? Last I heard she was still at the Pasadena Recovery Center under a court order.

Isn't her name spelled Nikki McKibbin?

Anyway, I wasn't interested in the first one, and don't plan on watching this one. Not even to find out what crazy acronyms Gary Busey has come up with this time.

Rodney King? Really????

And Busey can tout 13 years of sobriety from cocaine but there is clearly something wrong with this guy. If he is the example of how to "work the program", well the program needs to be reevaluated.

There are so many things wrong with this picture...where to begin? All kinds of crazy. Yet, I'm just interested enough to check it out. The interaction between Jeff and Gary alone will be worth the time from my life I'll never get back.

His face looks a little crooked because he had some type of nasal/sinus cancer a number of years ago and had to have surgery to remove it.

Looks like this season will "boast" an almost-entirely new crew of characters, few of them likeable. The exception is, of course, Jeff...I had high hopes for him but at least he is back.

But seriously, Dr. Drew...Gary Busey??? Will he be teaching the session on "acting crazy while clean and sober"? Gone Hollywood MUCH?

But seriously, Dr. Drew...Gary Busey??? Will he be teaching the session on "acting crazy while [supposedly] clean and sober"? Gone Hollywood MUCH?

Having said that, I will watch at least the first episode...and I am not proud of that....
