Cat Scratched: Forest Whitaker Exits Broadway Revival

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and director Kenny Leon have led a mass exodus from a planned, all-black Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which was to also star Phylicia Rashad (as Big Mamma), Audra McDonald (Maggie) and Anthony Mackie (Brick). Sources tell the New York Post that the staging's "inexperienced" and "inept" producers — two hedge-fund managers who, for instance, wanted to replace four-time Tony winner McDonald (whom they derided as "a regional theater actress") with Beyoncé — are to blame.

They actually called Audra McDonald a "regional theater actress"??? And replaced her with Beyonce?? Have they never heard of the Tony's? Or seen Pink Panther? And losing the recent Oscar winner? And Phylicia Rashad? They need a swift kick in the rear from their Mama. And anyone else in close proximity.

I watched Audra McDonald when she performed on New Year's Eve on PBS. She sang standards and Broadway songs. She was magical. No gimmicks, just pure talent. Beyonce' couldn't hold a candle to Audra's singing talent.

If Audra's a regional theater actress then Halle Berry is a TV star. She was on Living Dolls.

what a shame! this seems like it has so much potential...great concept....great actors....and some producer wanted to ruin it by putting beyonce in there???

Forest, Audra, Phylicia, Anthony--these people are the epitome of class and integrity. I can't think of anything that these fine actors have done that I have not enjoyed.

America's obssesion with the Rump Shaka' is disturbing. The cover of Sports Illustrated now this? I am thinking there is some voodoo involved here:O
